Would you happen to have heard about which models Lexus is thinking about "hybridizing" in the near future? The GX perhaps?

Nope. It's all carryover from model year 2006.

That is one minimalist list of changes! It looks like they are just going to milk this for a year until they decide what to do with the model (similar to what they seem to be doing to the LX the last couple of years).

I doubt if they are making any more of the Gen4 systems for new car installation, so Gen5 was pretty much a given. Thankfully they did add the audio plug, which they did everywhere but the 07RX. Does that mean they removed the tape deck?

I'm surprised they didn't at least add HID headlights. Push button start was on the website for late 06, although nobody here has mentioned actually getting it. Is that listed in the specs for 07?

Default Arrghhhh! Now they put in the better Nav!

It figures.... I wonder if the screen could be swapped to improve resolution, or if instead everything is different.

I wonder why no styling changes and no sixspeed auto. And how about some new colors and of course HID's.

The funny thing is there has not been a very substantial updating the GX since it was introduced. One year it was KDDS. Another year it was the Gen 4 Nav systems. There have been horsepower tweaks, but nothing substantial. It truly should have HID and push button start w smart key among the other enhancements. Even Buicks seem to get a better round of updates than this .... (OK that was a cheap shot .. but it was added for colour commentary. )

Question

Hello everyone. I am currently in the process of purchasing my 2006 GX. My question to all who want to help is; what is the difference between the Gen 4 navigation and the Gen 5 navigation? Does it have better control, more features, updated POI, better voice activation???? What I'm looking at is a 2006 with Nav, third row seat, rear spoiler, chrome exhaust, preferred acc. package and pretty much every other option except KDSS and RSES. My quoted price for this in Black on Gray was $45,513. Do you think I should go for it, or wait and purchase the 2007 model? FYI, I'm going to finance it over 72 months.

Thanks for all the help,
Josh

Hi Josh,

welcome!

Here's some info on the 5th Gen Nav system which was introduced in the 2006 IS series, and just recently the 07 GS450h, RX350, ES350 just to name a few.

Check this post out for more info:

No mention of push button start for the GX. Lexus/Toyota will ususally put a new feature like push button start on new models, not on older existing models.

Thanks for the link. I can't believe how good the new screen looks. So it has twice the pixels as the 2006 generation 4 navigation? How many colors does the gen 4 have? Now I wish I would go with a 2007 GX, but then again, I'm sure I won't be able to get one with the options I want for below invoice. How do you think the new body style of the 2008 GX (if there is a new body style and new features) will affect the resale value of the older models? Do you think the new 2007 GM body styles for the Tahoe, Escalade, Yukon lower the value of the 2006 and older models?

Didn't I see an add for the new Avalon with stuff like ventilated seats and push button start? I guess I just don't understand why Lexus hasn't introduced features like that on such luxury models as the GX.

And someone mentioned Buick. My friend has a company fleet Buick LaCrosse that has a remote starter. He was floored when I told him my $50K GX still didn't offer that as a feature.
