Don't forget about the filter. It plays a huge role in how long your oil lasts/stays clean. I would never run extended drain intervals without replacing the filter at shorter intervals.
Also, I don't want to start a debate because this topic has been debated for years. I also am not backing synthetics to make revenue off Amsoil. I simply tried their products and have impressed with the quality. Give them a try. Bet you will be too!

I would still do it at regular intervals because You have a lexus and engines are not cheap for these cars. Trust me I know, because we replace alot from neglegent people all the time who get one oil change in 30000 miles. Right now at work we have a lady who had her oil changed only @ 30k, 60k and 90k. Need less to say we are now replacing the engine under customer pay and that is not cheap.

Ofcourse you are replacing her engine. She is an idiot and probably never changed her oil filter. Or air filter. Or did anything else for that matter.
With that being said I am one of the most **** people you will EVER meet when it comes to maintenance. Trust me, it gets done...lol. You are right about expenses, nothing is cheap. However I have great confidence in my 4.7, it's a Toyota design and is one of the lowest wearing V8s in the world...no kidding. It is extremely easy on oil. No Toyota engine has let me down yet and I have been practicing this with every car I have owned. I am at 21 cars now!! I recently sold a 2002 4Runner 3.4L with 150K on it. Changed that beast every 20-25K with filter changes at 5K-7.5K. Ran just like it did when new...wish I still had it for offroad duty!

Mobil1 - #1 factory filled choice by OEMs
I trust the OEMs to do some serious engine testing before using a premium oil in their top-end cars: Porsche, AMG Mercedes etc all use Mobil 1 factory filled....besides Mobil 1 uses FULLY synthetic base oils, not the diluted mineral oils used by other companies and marketed under 'synthetic'..
I have also been using M1 in my BMW and works flawlessly for 50K plus....my Lexus dealership also promotes Mobil 1 for oil changes (but better to buy at Costco/ Walmart and bring oil in otherwise you pay a fortune)

Used Oil Analysis
Brand war is nothing new, what make one brand better for your engine and your driving style depends on your own UOA, if you care only about scientific data.
FWIW, here is one done on Chevy LS1 engine using M1 5w-30 and Amsoil 5w-30.

I have done on with M1 5w-20 on my RX300 with excellent result.

Hard fact comes from Used Oil Analysis, which is a spectro analysis of an oil sample from your engine that reveals amount of wear particles: copper, iron, aluminum, lead. It also tells you how viscosity holds up after X miles of usage and the amount of acid neutralization additives left in the oil.

Here is one excellent M1 5w-20 UOA by a 2000 Toyota Thundra V8, same 2uz-fe engine. Look at the low wear after >13K oil miles.

It is not just M1, but Amsoil is also an extremely good oil superior to M1 (would use it if I could get it down here or import it without red tape).
In addition, it is key to use the right weight depending on how you drive your vehicle.
My uncle was a fan of Valvoline in his younger days, but Valvoline has decreased their presence in the Mexican market big time...used to use their PSF and synthetic brake products, but again no longer here.
So now I am using Ford Heavy Duty Brake Fluid and Mobil 1 ATF for PSF.
Best to try it and see if there is change.
