Default Rear Windshield Wiper Replacememt

Has anyone replaced the rear windshield wiper on their GX ??

If so, how did you get the arm to go back ??

Hi Cap,

Yes, I have changed the rear blade but I never got the arm to go back any further than the 1-2 inch play that exists. I just did the best I could. It was a PIA!

At the fat end of the rear wiper, you will need to pry/pull and remove the "cover" then the wiper can swing out like 90 degree to easy changing. After that just snap the cover back in place.

Underneath the black plastic cover at the motor end of the wiper arm is a small nut that you can tighten up to get rid of most of that free play.

Smile gx 470 rear wiper refill

What is the size of the rear wiper blade refill? Can this be purchased at a retailer?

I believe the blade is a 15.5" and is not available at places other than the dealer.

Get a 16" refill and cut it down to size

actually, you can just get some silica paper or sand paper and smooth out the rubber blade if it is still new.

There is more to a wiper refill than just the length. There are various style involving different thickness and style of the refill. To just walk into an auto parts store and telling them you want a 16" refill will get you the wrong part most of the time. Get it matched up.

I purchased new refills from my local Toyota dealer this weekend... Interstingly, he pointed out that they have three different thicknesses of blades, in addition to the length of the blade... Fortunately, I had the GX with me and he was able to compare them to his stock on hand, and came up with ones that would work... I think they were about $6 a piece....

Rear wiper installed as described above... he popped the cover off and the wiper pivoted out nicely... once complete, the cover popped right back on...
