Angry 2 accidents in 1st week with my GX470... Ouch.

Brings a tear to my eye... I got my '04 GX470 last Monday. Someone parked next to me in a parking lot almost took the door off with their rear view mirror on Thursday. On Saturday, hit & run in a parking lot, cracked rear bumper.

Total damages in first week of possession: $2,500.

Ouch. If this keeps happening, it's going to get expensive. Right now I'm almost afraid to drive it!!! (Or park it outside my garage, anyway.)

Going to get expensive??

With $2,500 worth of repairs necessary in the very first week, I'd say it already is expensive!

I sincerely hope your luck takes a turn for the better very soon!

I'd invest in a set of custom steel bumpers. Unfortunately, since the GX470 is only sold in N. America and not Australia, there is no aftermarket offroad bumper REPLACEMENT available. You might be able to get an ARB Landcruiser Prado bar to fit with some mods to the bar, but the front quarter panels are different (notch in the prado panel where the bumper meets the fender well).

http://www.arb.com.au/toyota_home.php

I use this rear bar (w/o the carriers) on my LX. Looks almost OEM when painted to match, but it's 150 lbs of plate steel, not wimpy plastic. At least it protects the rear.

I've used one on my old 4runner for 5 yrs now. Some idiot teenage driver hit me TWICE in the rear corner of the bumper trying to park his Tahoe (I was parked in the back of the shopping mall lot, not a car around me, and the guy was so inexperienced he had to use my vehicle as a parking guide!). Anyways, didn't even ding the bumper, as it's 1/4" plate steel there! Had it been plastic, it would have been crushed.

Ouch! Not a nice introduction to a new SUV!
Welcome and good luck for the future, anyway.

My old SUV had a fight with a garage door - the whole garage door had to be replaced but there wasn't a scratch on the SUV. These plastic bumpers are a joke - and it was cheaper to replace the garage door!

Thanks for the advice & words of support, all. The other guy's insurance is going to cover the first incident, which was the more expensive of the 2. So I'm out $750 out of pocket.
Definitely could be worse, but the "new" is definitely gone. Taking it in to a shop recommended by the local dealership, so hoping it looks good as new when finished.
