Default Driveshaft CLUNK fixed!

I have to give credit to Lexus of Glendale, CA for really going over my expectations for that dealer.

I dropped off my GX last Wednesday for some leaks i found on the garage floor located where all four tires were. I thought maybe the adjustable ride shocks were leaking grease. Since I was going to get something done, I also told them that I noticed the A/C doesn't get cold as much even in the coldest setting. I thought it just needed more freion or something.

Finally got a call yesterday from the SA and he told me that the CLUNK driveshaft problem was fixed and they also ordered a new AC kit. So I was ecstatic. All these posts about the CLUNK fix being cancelled. I got the call today to tell me the car was ready and here's what the receipt/charges were:

Rear Drive Shaft Assembly Propeller
Part # 37110-60A40 $347.71

Rear Drive Shaft Control Arm Kit
Part # 04006-09160 $405.28

A/C Performance Improvement
Additional Air Kit
Part # 88039-60060 $1768.32

Miscellaneous stuff:
Bold, Nuts, Washer $5.80
Clip $2.49
Super Long Life Coolant $13.51

Parts all in all $2570.67
Labor $950
Total Charge $3520.67

And the beauty of it all is that it was covered under warranty. I said to myself, wow...with the warranty I got from Jeff (Huntsville of Lexus), this fix alone was way more than what I paid for 7/100K warranty.

So for anyone out there who is giving up on the CLUNK fix, keep pressing your dealer. I only had to tell them twice until they finally gave in the third time.

I am still blown away by how much this trip to the dealer could have cost me. This is my first luxury car and this trip alone was more than I ever spent on my explorer to get fixed in the 4 years I owned it.

Thank goodness for warranty!

BLK - just to clarify - are you saying that your original warrenty ran out and all this work was done under the Lexus extended warranty? (and that bill is more than I spent in total during the 10 years I owned my Explorer!)

As I like to keep cars a long time, I might want to rethink that extra warranty.

hey silver lady...hehehehe...actually my original warranty is still on going but I purchased an extended warranty on top of that...just for this kind of reason. most of cars i owned, none starts falling apart until 3 or 4 years into owning it.

but with my extended warranty...there's that added feeling of assurance just in case something unexpected does come up.

i think you should definitely think of getting the extended warranty...if you like to keep your cars a long time...then you have to have it.

Good to hear BLKGX470 and that's what good customer service should be
for Lexus of Glendale.

The ac in my 05 gx is not cold at all even at the lowest 65 deg. Even my 99 gs is still freezing cold, hasn't been recharged at all.

Dealer checked the compression and said it's normal I need to give them a call again. Guess I'll bring in my GS so can compare.

Did you happen to notice before getting it fixed a jarring rattle when going over harsh bumps? And did this fix correct it?

yup, the rattle is gone too. that wasn't that noticeable though. what got me bothered is really when on a complete stop, after a few seconds i would hear a loud thump and feel it on the brake pedal as well.

even my wife could hear it and she's not very much into cars but she actually asked me what that sound was...so that means it wasn't just my imagination.

drove gx home and every stop i made, i waited for that thump sound and its NOWHERE to be heard

The rattle really bothers me. It's not so loud as it is a vibration from below. I made a post here a while ago about a vibration in the floor boards. For a while I thought it was something in the running boards, but it could not be found by Lexus. Now they believe it is related to the driveshaft issue.

This driveshaft issue was supposedly fixed on my vehicle about a year ago, but it came back. I think the TSB has been updated and fixes it long term now.
