Yeah, that mileage is kinda high. There's still a fantasy that "normal" mileage is 12,000 a year. Since you've got an 06, that looks like you put on 22,000 miles in one year (current model year is 07).
I traded in a couple of RX's with high mileage like that and got killed on the trade-in value, too. If you want to trade for another Lexus, you'll have to trade it in before you hit 50,000 miles or you'll take an even bigger hit on the trade-in value. The Lexus dealer can't make it Certified Pre-Owned if it has 50,000 miles or is more than 3 years old, and the dealers in my area like to resell them all as CPO (bigger profit margin!)
Another tip may be to buy your next new car at the end of the model year, rather than the beginning. Then you'll get a "free" year with almost no miles. If you would have bought an 05 when you bought the 06, it would look like you had 22,000 in two years, which would be much more "normal".

Actually, I would not say 12000 miles a year is a fantasy. I had my GX for 1 year now, and it has only 8000 miles on it. My wife's car is even less, only 7000 miles per year.
If you buy your car at the end of the model year, rather than the beginning. It would be worth even less when you try to trade it in, now the car is 2 years old instead of one. I usually only buy end of the model year cars if I plan to keep it for a long time.

It all depends... we use our GX mostly for weekend and long trip duty... we have more fuel-efficient BMWs for day to day traffic jousting... I put about 20K on my 325Ci a year, my wife about 15k on her 525iT... The GX may hit 10 or 12k in a year... we bought it back in May, and now here we are in November, and its got a little over 6K on it...

The reason I say that 12,000 is a fantasy is because more and more people have to drive longer distances to work. The only way 12,000 is attainable is if you live within 15 miles of your work, and that's not true for many suburbanites.
And believe me, the mileage is a bigger deal than the age on a trade-in, especially when trading in a Lexus.

Average milage is more like 15k/year and that is what most of the blue books use as average, I think even that is low for the average driver using the vehicle to and from work. That being said, 10k loss over a year is a crushing - not sure what you paid new, I have an 06 everthing except KDSS and paid about 48 for it. The problem definitely is the dealer, because if you trade that and go in a week later, it will be on the lot, they will have to do nothing to it and it will be going for 43k - they make a quick 6k for the turn around - that is the life though! The options are to deal with the private sale hassle to get more money.
It is especially hard on a one year old vehicle, if I went into a dealer and only was saving 5k on a 1 yr old vehicle with 22k on it, I would go for the new one!

the 3rd row is an absolute must have feature. the value gets whacked without the third row. kdss, not so important at all.

Definitely without the 3rd row seat makes it less valuable.
Don;t feel bad, my wife put 15000 on ours and it is 7 months old - she's now driving my car to save some milage.

Tell me about the "you gotta be kidding!" feeling...
I just had my 05 GX appraised for a trade. 15K miles (Which I consider VERY low) with every possible option (KDSS, 3rd Row, sport pkg, Mark Levison, NAV) and car is perfect. I am getting offers from $36500-39000.
I was under the impression these cars held their value better than most...even kbb appraises low in the low 40's on a dealer trade.
Problem with selling on own, is the sales tax (nearly 9%) in WA state, and we only pay difference in sales tax when trade. At some point, the benefit for selling for a couple more thousand privately goes away when have a large sales tax bill on the new car.
Guess I'm keeping the GX for a while.
No big deal, it is a great vehicle.
