I'm heading in Feb to Eloy, Az .. I've got 7200 miles on my 2004 .. not many miles since new ..

my question is would I need anything done before I go.. I just had the oil changed and at 5000 tire rotated ..

thanks

Check your coolant level, air filter, you know the normal maintenance stuff. I doubt you really need to do any servicing, just check up on fluids and such. You'll have no problems along the way.

Your good, just make sure all the fluids are at the propper level, tires have the same pressure and go, my 4Runner does NY to Georgia with an average speed of 75, certain areas it never drops below 90

On the driver's side door jamb, there is a sticker with all the info (month of manufacture, tire pressure, gross vehicle weight, paint color code, etc.)

Depending on how long you are going to be in Arizona, there is a TSB that might interest you. This was posted by "Capirato" a while back. But, it refers to the A/C issues in high temperature envirements.

Make : LEXUS Model : GX470 Year : 2003
Service Bulletin Num : 00104 Date of Bulletin: JAN 09, 2004
NHTSA Item Number: 10005740
Component: EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:AIR CONDITIONER
Summary: AIR CONDITIONING (A/C) PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT. EXPERIENCING LOW COOLING EFFECT FROM THE A/C SYSTEM WHEN DRIVING IN HIGH TEMPERATURE AREAS. 2004 GX470 ALSO INCLUDED. *TT

If I remember the actual TSB correctly, it manifests itself as poor cooling when the outside temperature gets to high. They modify the expansion changer or something like that. Anyway, good luck. That is a pretty hot place in July

I took my 2004 GX470 from Milwaukee to Phoenix back in march 2005, to see the Brewers and other teams in spring training games. I had less then 3,000 miles on mine when I left, and the entire round trip put on about 4,000.

The only service I had done before I left was my first oil change..and I had my dealer use Mobil One synthetic. My Lexus was great on the trip.....whether cruising through the flat texas panhandle at 80 mph, or through the arizona montains between Flagstaff and Phoenix. Plenty of engine power to maintain speed with the cruise control even when climbing a steep grade.

On the way home, I went east and north from Phoenix instead of back through flagstaff, and ran into a snowstorm in the mountains. I had no traction problems whatsoever, even on the curving mountain highway.

Just load up your CD changer and enjoy the drive.
