Hi and thanks in advance. My wife is looking at this car and I had a couple of questions.
1. When is a new body style going to be released?
2. I thought I read they will end GX production for a newer JX? Is this the case, if so when?
ANy help would be appreciated, if you ask 10 people these questions at the dealer, you get 10 different answers.
We love the car but when we drove it, it was missing nice features that are in my 430 such as AC seats, keyless, etc..I am sure if and when they update the car, it would include those items...

Seems like there won't be any body changes, just some minor changes.
Some informations here:

no current changes planned. the jx does not exist at this point or any point in the future, that was a once-rumored replacement for the lx470, and its not gonna happen.

GX is a strong seller and very profitible SUV for Lexus, the 2nd generation is being worked on as we speak and will of course debut after/the same time the new 4-runner debuts.
Expect a long cycle, not as long as the LX but longer than 5 years. Toyota makes their truck SUVs to stay on the market for a long time.

SO would new bodystyles start showing up in the fall of 08?
or sooner?
or later?
My point is I do not want to purchase a car that will have changed within the first year or 2 that I have it...
Thanks,
N

Right now all you see are guesses, and even plans can change due to circumstance. LX and GX sales have been falling, and both can use some updating. If as some have guessed 2009 is the year, look for the vehicle to be released in early 2008 - maybe even January.
My own personal guess based on absolutely no knowledge - I don't see Lexus keeping two "real" SUVs in today's climate that is moving to crossovers for the casual SUV driver. I'd look for one crossover/minivan AWD and one updated "real" SUV to replace the GX and LX, but not sure which will be which. Current talk is that the RX (already a crossover) will become somewhat bigger and add a third row of seating, but it doesn't sound quite up there with minivan size or rear passenger comfort.

1st Gen for the GX(currently) and they're working omn the "2nd" gen GX, but in technical terms, the current GX is the "2nd" gen in terms of the Toyota Prado. It will be re-designed the same time as the 4Runner.

My guess would be is to expect a Platinum Edition GX right before a redesign which i'm guessing would be the 2009 model the earliest. The GX 470 will probably be lengthened to about the size of the current LX and the LX I would think will grow in size similar to that of a QX56 while maintaining it's off-road capabilities. The RX I believe will grow a bit in the next generation. However if Lexus does create crossover i'm sure it's target would be the R-Class and be based off the RX.

It did, but never got into the market place, https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-1st-gen-1999-2003/67506-what-is-this.html
This wasn't just a rebadging...there were references on the net a few years back.

OK. I was at Tustin Lexus this morning and was told that a new bodystyle of the GX will be out before this time next year.
This was told to me by a sales manager.
To add to the confusion, my service tech at Newport Lexus told me his factory rep mentioned they will stay the same for at least 2 more years.
I want one, but I do not want one if the changes will be within a year.
I think there will be many changes on par with my GS 430 such as AC seats, keyless start, etc.
Someone here from Lexus should be able to verify this...

While at the local Toyota dealer (I get my GX serviced there, it's 40 miles closer than the Lexus dealer) I checked out a Sienna Limited mini van in the show room (cost >$40,000). It felt pretty darn close to a Lexus, with a lot of familiar features and trim. Even took one for a test drive - very nice, but not up to Lexus expectations for smooth and quiet (MHO). But very nice.
