Unhappy Help With The Nav System

I own a 2007 GX470 and would like to know how to use the NAV system while driving. This is really hard to deal with, my wife is always in the car and she as my passenger is the one trying to work the GPS. It is crazy that you need to pull over to use the NAV system to find new address or POI. PLEASE HELP.

We just got our 07 GX today, but have read on this forum that you are locked out from using the nav while driving unless it is an emergency. You can use it only when stopped. The same goes for your bluetooth. You cannot dial numbers while driving.

Have you tried

Press Menu
Press Volume
Press the Top Left Corner
Press the Bottom Left Corner (there is nothing there)
Press the Top Left Corner
Press the Bottom Left Corner

A new menu screen will come up

Press and hold Override for 5 seconds or until you hear a beep (do not touch any other buttons).
press map to go back

now you can input while driving

Several reports are that the override instructions will not work with the latest map disk (it also changes a different file). Perhaps somebody will find a new set of instructions.

The Gen5 nav does have improved voice commands - you can actually input a full address by voice. POIs can easily be brought up by voice, although sometimes it takes a while to get the right one. Using voice is more of a pain, but you might want to practice a bit and see how it goes.

You do know you can use the voice recognition on the 07 GX. Big difference from the previous years. No need to remove your hands from the wheel. It works great for me. Now as for your wife doing the navigation from the passenger seat, you would have to press the voice command switch on the wheel and when requested, let her say the address info.

In your experience, does this permanently allow you to do this or just one time? Is there a way to do this and remove the "I agree" screen or allow you to use the bluetooth while driving?

Default Still No Luck

Thank you so much for everyones inputs but the new NAV system in 2007 GX470 will not allow you to go into the Override menu. I was wishing someone had the new way to get into the overide menu. Thanks again, I am sure the answer is out there.

Will this Nav hack work for the Gen 2 2004 Nav?

It should - 03 did not work and possibly really early 04's, but 04 and up except 07 work. If this key sequence works, then the coastaletech unit will work to do the over ride for you and let everything work. If you search around, the bluetooth can also be over ridden with a cut wire on the back of the nav that tells bluetooth your moving.

If you also search around and you are pretty savy, there is a post on the forum to tell you how to make a DVD that uses the the current software, but old boot loader etc. so the over ride works. You can also possibly run the old DVD - there are also posts on how to get the previous generation to work, but you loose all the nice new features!
