Question 30 k service

ok.. I thought I saw this a while ago... But unable to find the thread.

- What is the "accepted" rate for the 30 K service?
I have called two area dealers... got three different prices..
625.99 and 845.99 for a "full 30k" or 410.99 for a "half 30"..

Thus I needed more info... the "half" doesn't include front or rear differential fluid change or transmission fluid change!!!!

- ok cl team... what is the truth? When should we change the diffs and trans fluid??

- one more thing.... when and what service needs to be done for the kdds??
thanks

I just had mine done and it was about $550-600. I had them change the front and rear diff fluid which was not on the list of things they usually do but I felt at 30,000 miles it is a good time to change them. The transmition fluid does not need to be changed till 100,000 if you have a 2004 or later model with the WS fluid type. I did get a discount for bringing my own oil in for them to use and I always change the cabin and engine air filters myself thus saving about $75. I did not change the transfer case fluid. Hope this helps!

The truth is that you can pick and choose what you like. If you feel that it is not necessary to change certain things then you dont have to. 630 is what i got charged but that was everything.

oil change
air filter
fuel additive
wiper blade inserts
trans fluid (04 and up does not take)
antifreeze (04 and up does not take)
brake fluid ...
gear oil front and rear
check over things etc.
usually ac filter too

The whole idea that you saved $75 by changing your own two air filters disgusts me! That is highway robbery and prob why i do all my own work on my car. I am not about to pay 6-8 hundo for this stuff. That is a ripoff!

I know, the prices they charge for OEM filters is a joke and they will not discount them. I buy them online from either lexus-parts.com or Park Place Lexus, they will at least discount them.

Yep! Somehow what Toyota charged to work on my 4Runner is half of what it costs to work on my GX! Are rich people just stupid? Who would pay these prices? There is obviously a TON of mark-up. If it takes you or I 10 minutes to change a cabin filter and an engine air filter, why on earth would i need a certified technician to do it for me at $100/hour???

I need to toss my graduate degrees and find a new career!

Yes, taking off the skidplate can be a PIA but changing oil is quite childsplay and not worth hundreds of dollars. I pay about $50/5000 for a filter and Mobile-1 synthetic. It takes me 30 minutes. 20 of which is waiting for the oil to drain and removing/adding the skid plate.

I will however take her in for a radiator flush and diff change but that is worth it. I used to cut the hoses and do the flush myself but don't like doing that anymore. Why? 55K reasons

I got the AC filters for my LX online at denso products online. Dirt cheap, about $26 for BOTH filters (2 filters in a box). They are exactly the same as the OEM lexus ones, same markings on the plastic frame, made in Japan. Only difference is it comes in a Denso box instead of a toyota box and you've cut out the middle-man, getting the price down to $13 each instead of $40 each. Funny thing is, these exact filters sold in Japan cost 30,000 yen a pair ($270 USD!!!) while they cost 1/10th of the amount in the US!! FYI, Denso is one of the major suppliers for Toyota/lexus in Japan (also honda). Only trick was the AC filters weren't listed under '03 for my LX, but I found them under the '00 LX. My stealership charges about $150 to change the AC filters.

That is dirt cheap considering my local Lexus dealer quoted me $55 + tax for the in-cabin filter today. I ended up ordering through Sewell Lexus for $22.50 (includes the 10% CL discount) + $9 shipping. Not bad at $31 but certainly not $13.

Do you have a link to the Denso site that you purchased directly from? I just went to the densoaftermarket.com site and although they had a parts catalog showing the filters and the part numbers, there was no way to actually make an online purchase. Thx.

Try this link:
http://www.densoaftermarket.com/cata...US&model=GX470
It is not an easy site to navigate but you click on the part number to purchase it. You will find the price more than what you paid at Sewell by the time you add shipping with Denso. It also took me over a month to get it because it was out of stock. I bought my last filter from them thinking it was a better grade filter but it was the same one the dealer sells. When I first changed my filter the one from the factory was much thicker than the ones they now sell at the dealer so I have been trying to find those again but so far have had no luck. When I showed the filter to the parts guy at the dealer he did not know why the factory one was so thick. It was a much better quality filter, too bad we cannot get those. Hope this helps!
