Thumbs up Debadged GX

I debadged my GX today. Got rid of the Lexus, GX470 and V8 wording on the back. I left just the Lexus symbol. It looks way cooler! Not to mention that it will make waxing the car a little easier. I didn't get a chance to snap any pics, but I'll get it up shortly.

I did this on my 98 camry when i first bought it new, it was much easier but it wasn't too bad on this car either. It took me about an hour.

Sorry for the delay, but here it is.

Generally a person debadges a vehicle to pretend to have the higher end model (GS300 , SC300,325, etc). Fortunately the GX is only offered in one trim.
I for one prefer the badges on the GX myself but its not bad without them.

I did it for the opposite reason...to surprise people . I have a debadged GS400.

Looks very clean, I love it!

I do it for a different reason too. Its for those who don't know much about cars to wonder what car it is. hahaaha

For anyone wondering how I did this, it was pretty simple really. I took a big plier and yanked it off. I was careful to not scratch the car. The bigger the plier the better as it gives you better leverage.

After pulling it off there was some sticky double sided foam like tape they used so I just used my fingers to take it off. What's left would be spme small traces of glue and some foam.

I then sprayed bug and tar remover and let it sit for about 2 minutes then wiped it with some pressure to remove the glue and foam. After all of it came off I washed it down with soap and water as the instructions on the bug\tar removed suggested that I do so after using it.

From there I took some of my megiuars wax cleaner and polished it on. Wiped that off and then follow up with the megiuars nexgen tech wax.

I would highly recommend not using tools to remove emblems. One very slight slip and there goes a nice scratch.
Always use fishing line and then some goop remover for the remaining double sided tape. You remove the risk to your paint and save the emblem as the next owner most likely will want the emblems (just add tape) on the vehicle and new emblems are from $20-$70 each.

Some people do that, others just don't like all the crap that car manufacturers put on a car.

I debadge all of my cars. When I pulled the Boxster S off of the back of our car my wife about had a fit. She said "no one will know it's an S". I simply said "anyone who actually knows, and can apprecialte the difference, can tell just by looking at the brakes, or the exhaust, or the opening in the center of the front valence". I really don't care if people know what I am driving...I know what it is and I don't need to be reminded with a bunch of badges.

But once again it's all perdonal taste.

OH...and definately use fishing line...it is very easy to get them off and you will not damage the paint or the emblems!!!
