Just moved from the gs430 to gx470 family. Hi to all :-).

One quick question - my 2004 gx470 only came with one master key - is there a place with instructions to program a new master key? I remember doing it before with my gs430 - and it involved putting the key in the ignition and pressing the brake and gas pedal multiple times etc. I'm wondering if there's a place I can go to get directions to do the same thing for my gx.

Thanks guys!

I don't have an answer to your question but Congrats! Welcome to the GX forum.

How do you like the transition?

Try the GS programming steps, it should work:

OK - thanks for the info Gman. Kphu - only had the gx a couple days - I like it a lot so far - the gs was just a little too quick off the line and made it too tempting for me to drive like an idiot. I need something big and slow to stay out of trouble Seriously though the GX is just more practical - I'm getting too old for the sporty stuff.

Did you buy the GX from a dealer, if so, I would ask the dealer for the 2nd key.

Pay close attention to your speedometer though, the GX is so quiet and smooth you may be lulled into speeding inadvertently and not even realize it. I got a ticket literally the day after I bought my GX for going 45 in a 30 (almost 200 bucks!). I told the officer I had no idea I was going that fast - he cut me NO slack

Telling the cop that your vehicle is luxuriouly quite will only get you a bigger ticket

Thanks for the tips
Bought a 2004 used with 39K miles. Just found the extra master and valet key buried under the GIGANTIC manual in the glove box - so looks like I won't be needing to buy an extra key
Now I just need floor mats...and some good tinting

If you don't mind sharing, how much did you pay for it? I just bought my 03 GX with about 42K on it for $29,500. This was the price after 96 4-Runner Trade-In. Asking price was $33,656. My 4-runner was starting to have transmission issues so the trade in they gave me was reasonable in my mind. Of course they didn't know there was a tranny problem but it doesn't matter because they were sending it to the auction. The paint job on it was ruined by tree sap that was never cleaned off until it was too late, which killed the clear-coat. Plus I had a good size dent in the corner of the bumber with some rust too.

The GX had the following:CPO, Nav, ML, 3rd Row.

KPHU - of course I don't mind sharing. I paid 20K plus traded in my 2001 gs430. I probably got raked over the coals but when I want a new car I'm too impatient to wait on the best deal. It's 2004 with 39K miles and I think all available options (I'm not sure what all is available though) - the ones you listed plus dvd entertainment. It also has 20" forged chrome wheels which really are what got my attention and made up my mind cause I think they look very nice.

Yeah it looks like you did get ripped pretty bad. I looked up the max trade in value of your car which according to NADA is $17,850. I selected every option possible and assumed that the mileage was the average 12K miles per year so 2001 = 72K miles.

I know exactly what you mean about being patient on finding a great deal. I was in a hurry to get one too since my 4-Runner was having sporadic transmission issues.

The original sticker price on my truck was about $38K at the dealership. About 3 weeks after I first saw it at the dealership I noticed that they advertised on autotrader.com for $33,656. That's when I decided to seriously look at it.

In the end we pay for the toys we want, which makes us all happy.

I recently had to replace one of my master keys. I didn't shop around because i was scared. For one i lost the key and i didn't know if i misplaced it or someone stole it. So i went to the dealership to ask them if i should be worried if someone has my master key. It wasn't a big deal but then they persuaded me into ordering another key which was 200 bucks. I went home, looked on ebay and found one for like 80 bucks and i coul dhave programmed it. What a bummer.

I'd get nervous too if I lost my key.

I lost my house key once and decided to have all of the locks changed; it costed me $150 to replace all of the locks. I took the door locks apart down to just the lock itself and the locksmith asked me if I had experienced with locks and I said "No" I just looked at it and it made sense when I took it apart. All he had to do was replace the pins on the inside to create a new key and I did the same for all of the other locks.

When I make keys for anything I have...cars, house, etc. I give them my closet relative's address instead of my own. In case someone at the store decides to pay my house or car a visit.
