Default Extended warranty, good idea or not

looking at buying an extended warranty for 2004 gx with 44K milage. Anybody have input or if it's even needed, or a specific product that you had a good experiance with. I believe the dealership extended is around $3700 to 100k/7yr (platinum-L5-$0 deductable.)
thx

You can get it from Lexus of Huntsville or Toyota of Greenfield for around $2000. Search these forums for the contact info. I don't not think I will get the extended warranty when my 4 years/50K miles is up. I just don't see spending $2K on repairs in 3 years, but knowing that, I'll have something break that costs $5K, so go figure.

I bought extended warranty towards end of the factory warranty just in case... Two mos after expiration of factory warranty I went in for service and they discovered radiator leakage. Fix involves radiator replacement. Cost around $1000. I was glad I bought the plan.

Just to play devil's advocate, how much longer do you have on the extended warranty? You would still be ahead $1000 if you didn't buy the plan and paid the $1000 out of pocket for the radiator. Of course, you never know how much in repairs you'll have, so perhaps the $2000 is worth it if you have another few thousand in repairs this year.

Whatever you get make sure it will cover the cost of the "clunk" TSB (if it hasn't been done already).

If it were me I would base it on my car's history. If its been having issues here and there then its probably one of those that will always have minor problems. If you own 1 of these then I would recommend getting the warranty.

Paying for warranty is basically gambling. R U a gambler?

The extended warranty just kicked in after factory warranty expired, as I mentioned. Yes, this particular repair itself has not paid for the total cost of extended warranty. But again extended warranty is simply a provision for future repairs as you said. This is the 1st time I purchased such a warranty, and one of the main reason is that I do plan to keep this truck at least for 7-years and repairs are pricey.
