Wheel + Tire fitment... HELP please!
Can anyone please advise if this will fit GX without tire rubbing problems:
Wheel: 20 X 8.5 6X5.5 +18 (size, bolt pattern, Offset)
Tire: 275/45/20 (conservative)
285/50/20 (aggressive?)
295/50/20 (pushing?)
305/50/20 (...?)
I'd like to go 285 or 295 but wasn't too sure. 305 might have problem so might not even go there. 275 is too OEM like... I think? Any suggestion? Thanks.

305 50 20 is almost exaclty the same size (diameter, width and rev per mile) as the 305 40 22's that I have right now, so they should fit. Which means that all of the smaller sizes that you list should definately fit.
As for the wheels specs, that should work too, but make sure that the hub size is large enough...there are not very many wheels that have a large enough hub opening to fit on the GX.
But I am no expert...you may want to post this in the wheel and tire forum.

Guys, do you know if increased or decreased overall wheel diameter ie, using lower profile tires, will damage transmission or other related parts. I know that the odometer will either go faster or slower. www.1010tires.com shows comparison between tires and also suggests not to exceed 3% in overall diameter otherwise you would run into potential braking power loss. That's about what I could research on the net... but damaging trans... that's new. This Discount Tire tech guy is insisting on a 265/50/20 because bigger diameter might damage my trans... I wanted to go at least 275/45/20 or even push it to 285/50/20 on a 20X9 +18mm offset. Any suggestions?

thanks, GatorGreg. Gives me more confidence to go bigger tires. I will try the 285/50/20 first and if no rubbing occurs then it will be it. If there is problem... I will do 275/45/20, this should fit with no problem... it is at least 0.400 inch lesser in width and will give the room for the tire. thanks again for the input.

cmarshack, gatorgreg... thanks so much for your input. after a month of research, shopping and deciding here's what I got... did not want to go chrome... just wanted a clean look. The 20in +18mm offset black machined MB KL77s are mated with Nitto NT420S 265/50/20great tires! (barely made it on the front wheel wells) All 4 wheels and tires, installed, balanced, lifetime balancing and rotation included, and warrantied for under $1300. I think I got a good deal.

Hope you don't plan on driving in the snow!
No traction = loss of M/S rating and chains required even thought you have all wheel drive and the chains will trash your beautiful wheels. If you ever plan on going skiing or going over a pass, you would be smart to buy some Z cable chains. (Z pattern allows antilock breaks to still function, standard parallel pattern chains can provide false readings to the antilock breaks and actually cause an accident.

Thanks for the compliments GatorGreg, BLKGX470, Mwarfiel.
I forgot to mention... these are my summer only wheels/tires. Do not intend to mess them up during winter snow season... not where i'm from at least. Intend to revert to my OEs soon as the first drop of that white stuff comes... or just use my old reliable 02sentraSER
