Default Running board advice

I am considering selling my 99 LX and buying a newer GX; however, there is one real threshold question for me: I HATE running boards, so can the running boards be removed from a GX? If they can't be removed, I'll look for something else............thanks for any help.............

I feel the same way. I had them off my 04 TLC and I think they look so much better without them. On the TLC like the LX they just bolt off then you buy a front mud flap. It is the same in the GX but I have not found a front mud flap yet. I am 6" tall and never use them but I know my wife and kid do.

Hope this helps

There are a few owners on this board who had removed their running board for off roading, so they are removable.

Here is a pic of one our members off-roading sans running boards at Hungry Valley (purp, I hope you don't mind me borrowing the pic).

From an article I once read they only take 20 minutes to remove. makes things easier for the off roading folks. Another member here can chime in as they off road their GX.

Have to say I'm the opposite, would not have the GX if not for them.

Thanks for the replies so far. I guess my real question is: is there a way to make the GX look like it could have come without running boards? For instance, you can remove the boards from a Land Cruiser with no extra parts, as the front fender is "finished;" however, I had to purchase a few extra parts (fasteners, mud flaps - which I also hate - brackets, etc.) to finish the front fenders of my LX. Otherwise, the end of the fender looks like something is missing.......no offense intended, but like the silver GX in the photo above. I don't know how you guys on this board feel, but the perfect look to me is like a standard Range Rover: very clean, no running boards, no mud flaps. Just clean, unencumbered lines............While I certainly prefer the Toyota products in all other respects (Lexus, in particular), in my opinion, they just have a few attributes which detract from their styling (I'm criticizing myself, as I own both an LX and a GX.......oh, and a GS, which actually looks good to me)
