Just curious...not having ever owned a Lexus, is the maintenance for these things way more than one would pay for say a Toyota? If you compare fixing a 4Runner at a Toyota dealership vs. fixing a Gx470 at a Lexus dealership type thing...

I would assume that Lexus dealerships hose customers in comparison but I could be wrong...interested to here your thoughts on this...

The mark up is usually higher at a Lexus Dealership naturally, but it does vary from dealer to dealer. One advantage, that doesn't justify the price but is nice to know, is that Lexus dealers often use Genuine Toyota fluids where as Toyota dealers often use substitutes. Some say there is no difference and that its all for your peice of mind, but if that is the case why not just take your car to an independent shop instead of the "stealerships"

a $5 loaner lexus while mine is being worked on his worth a few extra dollars here and there, but yes it does cost more

I've found my Lexus vehicle to cost about the same as my Toyotas. I pay $40 for oil changes and when repairs have been needed, they cost a little more, but not enough to get excited about. However, I've never had to take my GS or GX back and complain about shoddy workmanship or stains on the interior.

Depends on where you live. In this small town of 1 million, the sole lexus dealerships (2 under the same name/ownership) hold a monopoly. As a result, service costs are anywhere from 50% more (oil change) to 300% more (60K service), at least on the LX. I do most work myself, so that cuts the costs. Even in Phoenix, prices are much less for general maintenance despite the hourly rate being higher. My lexus dealer uses the cheapo Pyroil dot 3 brake fluid, not the Toyota brand (can't buy it here). I use Valvoline dot 4. Price difference is $6 vs $3/qt. The local Toyota dealer uses genuine Toyota ATF...same stuff sold at the lexus dealer, only $5/qt instead of $9/qt.
