Were HID's ever offered on any year GX?
Just wondering if they finally wised up over the last few years and at least offer them as an option if they are not standard now a days on the newer GX's or are they strictly all aftermarket kits?

No HID were ever offer for the GX line. The RX offers HID a few years ago and the new LX will have HID, so I guess the next re-design GX will likely have it. Lexus like to couple HID lights with adaptive headlights.

No HID lights have ever been offered by Toyota/Lexus on any of their frame based SUVs in N. America including the GX. However, lots of folks have added aftermarket kits. As I've said before, IMO this is a good thing because the lights sit up too high for HID's IMO. Even the fog lights on my GX sit up higher then the regular headlights on my other cars (Spyder and Accord).
G Man, the new '08 LX570 does not have HID's but it does have the adaptive headlights. The following quote is from the Lexus website's description of the LX570's lights:
"See-through outer lens with four-beam multireflectors and projector-type low beams with Dual-swivel Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS)"
My guess would be the next gen GX will get the same setup as the new LX. Too bad cuz the current GX has projector beams for both low and high beam, not just the low beam.

Look at that gorgeous e46 look-a-like shroud!
Now we also can't forget the esteemed Range Rover now can we?

Yes I'm well aware that other manufacturers have a different philosophy in regards to equipping their giant SUVs with HIDs - I'm reminded everytime my eyeballs get Xrayed by them.

Well, it seems to me its every manufacturer that have a different philosophy, not just some. I read some where that the new LX570 have HID in Saudi Arabia.

a small price to pay is the lights behind u for u to be able to see dramatically better in front of you IMO.
just saying.
u can always flip your rearview mirror or hope the aut dim feature works well as does the rear tinted window if u have one.

The halogen projector on the GX is actually pretty good, my cutoff is as good as any HID projectors out there. There are a lot of HID cutoff pictures in this forum. The only difference I notice is that the halogen projector's light pattern is not as wide as the HID projectors.
