My temp gauge has been all wacky for a while and I was getting a crackling sound out of the driver's side speaker, so I thought I would bring these up to the dealer with my current oil change.
They kept the car three days and said my VAISTECH adaptor is causing the crackling and the temp gauge sensor was replaced. So I drive off and two block later I see the corner of one the strips sticking up. I immediately turned around and showed the problem to the service advisor and he tells me they had no reason to get into the dash and in not so many words, I must have broke them when I installed the VAIS unit.
I've repeatedly posted on this forum warning people not to pull on the tops of the panels, so they won't break and I broke them? Not that they know of my postings, but how absurd!
Has anyone else have had work done and had the panels broken? if so, how did you get the dealer to fess up and replace them?
Thanks,

B.S.............My dealer broke the wood trim twice fixing my nav unit, and it took them 3 times to get a piece of trim that matched the stain on the other side. I'd be on that dealer like white on rice!!!!! The techs are literally reading instructions out of a book on how to remove those pieces. They are ridiculously fragile (I have a Vais unit as well). Keep on them.

The dealer knows how much that piece cost, thats why they wont fess up. I would start with their service manager, then the general manager. If that doesnt work, tell them you will report them to Lexus headquarter.

They are pretty easy to break. I have done it a few times and they arent cheap. I would just keep at them. Move up the chain, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Just dont take no for an answer.

I met with the service manager yesterday ready to go to battle. He took a look at the panels and said, "no problem, I'll order new ones and call you when they arrive"! So what was all the fuss about originally? Why did the service writer turn things around and try to blame me?
This is obviously not over yet, so I'll have to post an update on how things turn out at the end.
Thanks for your posts.
