Default Tach Problems

My 05 GX currently has 48,800 miles on it and I just started having this problem:
Every now and then, I notice that my Tach is not registering. All my other gauges work, but I do not register any RPM's. Does anyone else have this problem? I am particularly curious, as my warranty runs out in 1200 miles. Thanks so much for any feedback on this, as always it's greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Huntington

Never noticed any malfunction on my tach. Even if yours is working now I would still stop by the stealer and report the problem before your warranty runs out. That way you'll have some documentation of the issue having preexisted the warranty expiration.

I did exactly this and the Service Tech said the same thing: "it's very uncommon, but it's good that you reported it. Now if it breaks, Lexus knows that the problem originated during the Warranty Period."

Thanks for the good advice, GatorGreg!

I would definitely get the extended warranty. The price you pay for an extended warranty by far saves you money than going down the road and getting whatever problem comes up fixed.

So far from getting my warranty, I had these fixed:

• The Dreaded Clunk problem
• CD Changer
• window seal driver rear
• sunroof/mooroof seal bulging out
• leather seat cracks on driver and passenger side
• AC wasn't getting cold
• parking brake sticking

Just those fixes alone I estimate from all the invoices that I have accumulated are worth 3x-4x more than what I paid for warranty.

Very solid truck so far and I drive the heck out of it. Have not heard of persistent tach issues with any model Lexus. But if you plan of holding onto her get the warranty.

It's an extended lexus/toyota warranty that you can purchase. for example, 5yr 100,000km for a 2006 will extend your warranty to 2011. MSRP can be found on lexusfinancing.com but dealerships usually charge less. Here is the webpage.

The Lexus extended warranty is almost as good as the original warranty but in most cases better than the aftermarket warranty.

I asked my Technician about it, and he informed me that the Powertrain is warrantied up to 75,000 miles. Good to know!

Ya, that makes sense. I was just happy to find out that the most expensive parts to replace, found in the Powertrain, are still under Warranty.
