Best Way to Replace Rear Bumper?
I just looked at my drivers side rear bumper. It looks like some jerk hit me. He side swiped my 2008 GX (Salsa color) and left a dent in the bumper and a 12 inch scratch. I havent had to replace the bumper before on a GX (even though I had a 2004 GX before).
Can this type of thing be fixed easily or is the bumper cheap plastic that needs to be replaced? DO I report this to my insurance company or do I just hire a body shop OR buy a new bumper myself and have it installed if its not too much? Any advice? Thanks in advance folks.

I'd take it to a shop to get an estimate then decide how to pay for it based on your deductible. If it's less then your deductible then it doesn't make sense to have the insurance company involved. If it's way above your deductible then get your insurance to cover it.

When my rear bumper was swiped by a Camry this winter and cracked on the lower right edge, my local dealer's body shop replaced my rear bumper (with mudflaps and protective plastic cover on top) for about $850 including painting (my GX is Onyx Black)

Estimate
Thanks for the reply folks.. I got an estimate from the bodyshop today.. $800.00 approx. I'm sure it'll get to the $850 range when all is said and done. Body shop says that the bumper needs to be replaced. What sucks is that its a reasonably small scratch. Its a massive price for a plastic bumper.. I will shop around to a couple more body shops..cheers

I was recently rear ended and my damage was luckily contained to my rear bumper cone with some scratching to the left mud guard.
Replacement and refinishing and alignment thru a Lexus certified shop was $971, took about 4 days.
My bumper had actual holes in it, but they mentioned that they cant get a correct finish match if they try and correct small flaws in the bumper piece like scrapes without replacing. They said the flaw simply shows up thru the paint.
