You dont need to remove front headlight assembly, just remover the engines covers and you can get to it from the top.

You can also reach up from the bottom w/o removing anything. It's a little cumbersome but I've done it a couple of times already.

I personally feel it's easier to access from the bottom, just look straight up from the fog light housing and the bulb holder is a light gray plastic.

Can anyone help with the best way to replace the running light? I have taken all the covers off and attempted to remove the headlight assembly, but I am obviously missing a clip or something...Can this also be changed from underneath?

Yeah, it can be change from underneath and you dont need to remove the headlight assembly. Just reach your hand in there and locate the socket and turn.
