My 2005 GX gas mileage ~ 20 mpg!
Couple of weeks back I crossed 30K miles on my GX and did a 30K miles service at Totoya including changing diff, tran, brake fuilds etc. Then I calculated gas mileage not using trip computer but with pumped gas for given miles driven. To my shock, it showed 20.04 mpg!
. I am happy about it. Please note that I started using K&N drop engine filter around 10K miles earlier. Also, my driving habbit is 90% highway and 10% city. For the last 30K service, I changed regular Castrol to Sync-blend Castrol.

I think there is seriously something wrong with my gx. It seems like a lot of gx owners on here is averaging at least 16 in the city. I'm barely getting 14 in the city and around 16 hwy. I'm not a heavy footer either....I don't know whats the problem.

3rd row seat to minimized the weight. When needed, I can add that.
I did see smoth acceleration (from stop) after switching to sync-blend. But, I am not sure how much it would contribute to increase in gas mileage. Before I added K&N filter, I did the calculation (a year back) and for similar driving condition, I got around 19 mpg.

I always average 19.9 to 20.1 on my GX...went on a trip yesterday with the car fully loaded..five people and all the gear (plus the third row hanging back there) went between 60-70 mph and got exactly 20...I accelerate very slowly and take cruise off for the hills and let the car slow down a little bit. I also have 305/40/22 tires and heavy chrome wheels!

Maybe i'm doing some of my calculations wrong but i will do it again when i'm going on a trip. I think its time for me to recharge my k&n filter also. I know that all synthetic oil is the same but i recently switched from mobile1 to castrol synthetic cause i had a couple of bottles laying around.

LexGX, I use to get about 14 MPG too when I drive all city, its not unreasonable if you do a lot of stop and go, but 16 MPG on the highway is way too low. I use to drive around 75 MPH on the highway with 3 passengers and trunk full of lugguge and I still get sround 18 MPG. Maybe its time to change your K&N filter, there is nothing worst than dirty K&N filter. Those things plug up like a brick when they are dirty.

I'm going back to school soon and its about a 200 something mile trip and i'll calculate by hand to see if it improves or if it was all in my imagination. I'll be recharging my filter this week when i wash my car again.

I'm on a personal mission to see the maximum gas mileage I can achieve in my wife's new (pre-owned) CPO 2005 gx470.
Will a k&n filter make a significant increase in the mileage?
Are you guys achieving near 20 mpg using premium gas or a lower octane?
Is your AC on when driving the majority of the time?
What other tips do you have to increase the mileage?

However, my computer shows ~1.5 MPG optimistic compared to calculating the old-fashioned gallons/miles way, so I'm closer to an 18 MPG average. I've checked it on ~15 tanks full using both 93 and 87 octane to see if there was a difference (no stastically significant difference).>

All that said, my fuel computer seems to have gone waay optimistic lately -- I was driving it several miles yesterday on a flat coastal road at 58 MPH and it was showing 30-34 MPG constantly. I do NOT believe it's getting anywhere close to that actual mileage. LOL
