what is the best oil for my GX470
I have about 53000 miles on my 2005 model GX. Any thoughts on syntetic vs Non synth or one brand over another? I have used redline in my Passat and it was great stuff. My last oil change on the GX I went with the standard oil from the dealership.
I just want to add good quality oil that can stand up to the occasional towing of a small travel trailer, etc
Also interested in what people are using for trans fluid...anyone tried anything other than the stock fluid?
any thoughts??

53k is NOT too late to switch to Syn, with the 4.7V8 I doubt you'll get any seal leaks by switching at this low miles, the engine is just starting to wake up so go ahead and switch!
P.S. I bought my 03 GX470 with 51k on the odo and immediately switched Amsoil 5W30, no oil consumption or visible leaks so far (62k now), I change every 6 months or 7500 miles.

Wow, you change oil every 6 MONTHS! Man, i wish i could change oil at that interval. I practically change oil on my GX every 1 month - 1 1/2 months.

I take my 06' GX to the local Lexus dealer each time for my 5000 miles oil change, etc. I currently have just over 16,000 miles on it, so my question is, since I only get the oil changed roughly once a year (more like every 8 months), should I consider switching to synthetic oil too? I don't drive in extreme heat or cold (north Idaho) or on dirt roads, pretty much highway driving with little city. Also, should I switch the oil at the six month mark, even if I don't have 5000 miles on it? I believe the manual sales every 5000 miles for my type of use.

Run whatever oil you are comfortable with. If Redline worked for you in the past, run it in the GX. To put simply I have yet to have one car or run into a person that switched from non to synthetic and had problems. Synthetic is not going to make seals worse, they tend to leak through smaller holes vs standard oil, but at 50k miles you should have nothing to worry about. Again, the choice is yours.

I went to bobistheoilguy.com and they have a lot of good info on oil. One thing that they all seem to recommend is to run a product called autoRx in the engine for 1 oil change prior to going with synthetic. I guess it helps recondition the seals, etc

My vote goes to Castrol motor oil...
