Default 2005 GX470 Price Check Please

i am looking for advice on the price I should pay for a vehicle. Wife is pregnantmso ,we are shoppng around for a used GX 470. We came across a 2005 with Navi,DVD,and 51,000 miles. Everything looks good cosmetically except for a rim which is beat up a little bit. Also,it will need new tires within a year.It is CPO and the dealer is asking $26,000.

What do you think I should offer?

Also,if anyone knows at what point a dealer will reccomend new tires,I appreciate that. I want to know because I am going to measure the tire depth of the treads before I make an offer.

Thanks

I was under the impression for it to be a CPO car, it should have new or almost new tires..........

That makes sense to me,but,I do not know. To me,the tires do not look like they have a whole lot of life in them. Thats why I want to measure the depth and find out what thje service life is on the tires.

Hey so I just got my 2005 last week and I actually paid 27 for it with 55k miles nav, upgraded stereo, and 3rd row seats. The tires on the truck only have 3k miles on them and comparables in my area are selling for 30k plus. About your tires, the last car I bought before this one actually had really low tread as well and I was able to talk the dealer into replacing all 4 at his cost. Something you might want to look into especially if the dealer thinks it would be a deal breaker on your end. With it being hard to sell SUV's right now you are in a pretty good spot to bargain.

Good luck!

Yeah, a good place to start is search nationwide on Carmax.com to see kind of a baseline price across the country, you can narrow it down by various vehicle trim options too. Pay attention to mileage as well.

Then you can do a Cars.com search with your zip code to see both dealer and a few indivdual sellers' prices in your specific area.

This site is awesome for general info. on buying used -- http://www.carbuyingtips.com/used.htm

I picked up a 2006 GX in black for 32K. It had 24K on it and has navi and dvd. My friend is a service writer and knew the previous owner of the car. It belonged to a technician. The car was never in an accident, and was always garaged. White was my first choice, then silver and blue. Black was my 4th choice, but the price was too good to pass up.

Thanks for the advice guys.Heres an update.Well, the car I looked at on the dealership lot(it was actually a2005) was not the same car they were selling for 26k.The car I should have looked at for 26k was parked in the back lot which I did not know.

So,we went to the dealer Saturday to look at the correct car.Its a 2004,Navi,DVD,Mark Levinson,3rd row seat,...pretty much loaded. They wanted 26k and we bought it for 24k. It is CPO also.We are picking it up tomorrow. It's Blizzard Pearl which will go nicely with our white GS300. We bought the suv because wifey is pregnant and we will feel much safer in the GX470 over our 98 Taurus which she uses for work and as a beater.

So,what do you think of the price?Fair for both parties?
