Default Brake Job

So I took my GX in today to get the brakes checked. I recently switched to 22" Wheels with 305/40/R22 Nitto 420's and they have created a lot more wear and tear on the pads. I got a quote from the dealer and it was $850 before taxes to have my pads changed. This was absolutely insane to me. So, I am having an Independent do the job.
Has anyone else out there done this before?
The Independent is putting a form of Ceramics on which will hopefully help compensate for the weight increase from the tires and rims. Anyone out there had any success/errors with that?
One of the reasons I decided to take it in is sometimes when I am rolling to a stop I can hear a strange droning noise from the back right rim. I've noticed recently that the brakes smell - only on that side - after driving sometimes. Anyone experienced that?
Thanks so much everyone for your help.

I have used both Axxis Ultimate pads and most recently EBC Greenstuff Supreme. The Axxis are a marked improvement over the OEM but the Greenstuff are the best I have used. Keep in mind that I switched out the Rotor to Drilled & Slotted at the same time. I put new rotors on both time I switched pads, they were slightly grooved after the set of Axxis pads and you really should not even try to turn drilled rotors (any rotors really, but that's a topic for another time).

I too went the independent route for a brake job, but I purchased my pads and rotors through Tire Rack. ATE slotted rotors for the rear and ATE premium pads all around. A huge cost savings and better peformance then OEM IMO. If your brakes are taking a beating try slotted or cross drilled rotors.

Default Thank you

Thanks for the input! The GX is being worked on right now and I'm picking it up after work today. They had already ordered the pads, so I will let you know what brand they are and how they perform after I test them.
Question: anyone out there painted their calipers? Any pix?
I am thinking of having mine painted. Either Black like my GX, or Blue. Any suggestions/thoughts/comments?
