Be careful, unless you are 5'5" or shorter - stay away from the 4R.

I have a 06 GX and my wife has a 06 4R, the lack of headroom in the 4R is horrible and quite noticeable.

You have to wonder why they bother to stamp out two nearly exact vehicles so differently? The GX looks like the Pope mobile, but the headroom is fantastic.

The 4R wins the rear access design award. The rear hatch on the GX is poor, but I believe two short rear swinging doors and glass hinged at the top (like Excursion) would fix the problem without a total rear redesign. It'll never happen though.

Good luck and enjoy whatever you decide on.

I agree, the 4runner doesnt have enough headroom and the GX have head room like the Range Rover, go figure.

It's the useless moonroof on the T4R that robs all the headroom. The one I drove for a week was the base SR5 4x4 version w/o moonroof. Headroom was respectable for my 6'1" frame, but legroom needed to be an inch more. Don't know how the legroom on the GX compares. I like the rear clamshell liftgate on the LC/LX. It acts as a superb diaper changing table, a tailgate for picnics so you don't eat inside and drop food all over the interior, or a shelted place to sit and watch fireworks on July 4. With any other design, you have to sit in the car, which might mean you sit on a dirty door seal, plus you have to have room inside the vehicle, which is unlikely on a weeklong road trip.

Wow, Jim, the LX sounds like it is a great MINIVAN!! But, i think that i will stick to my Sienna...the traditional minivan.

I don't think you're gonna get 21 MPG Highway with any of the cars you're considering. You might need to go back to a crossover suv if you are looking for that kind of mileage.

i used to get 24-26 MPG on my rx330 all wheel drive..which is not bad. i do a lot of highway traveling the 4 runner v6 should get around 21 or 20 mpg. i am also considering the new pathfinders.
