Default what is the best rotor and pad combination?

i have r1 concepts drilled + slotted rotors with Hawk HPS pads and this combination sucks! Rotors are warped! Anyone have a better alternative that will last and will not cost an arm and a leg?

Thanks in advance!

hmmm, I have the exact same setup and no warping on my end with hard canyon driving and towing. Well over 10k miles now. How did you break in your brakes once installed?

depends on what your driving style...Brembo disc and OEM pads are alright in my eyes, I don't speed *unnecessarily* of course

Default break in technique

once i got em on I went for a cruise. This was at night.

1. city driving with very slow easy stopping (lightly braking, to the point where you basically don't really stop, just lightly warm up the rotors. Did that for about 10 min while heading towards the highway. Once i got on the highway I did the speed limit then I did 7-8 Emergency stops! I would get to 65mph then mash on the brakes to 10mph. And i reapeted this 7-8 times. Then i was done lol. And the following week I get this minor vibration when braking. Warped rotors. I will get them resurfaced, but i dont think it will do much.

Sounds about right, I always clean the calipers very well especially the pads guides where they slide. Not sure what else to add other than I drive my GX harder than most out there and no issues. The oem brakes did get hot spots which were beyond turning and then I went with this setup and have been pleased since. Again, canyon driving and towing another car. Never an issue. i have even run those cheap rotors on my SC430, blown GS, RL, etc. No issues.

I always thought you are suppose to take it easy on new pads and bed them slowly for the 1st 200 miles.

Try Power Slot Cryo Treated Rotors. They are bit more expensive, but as you found out, you get what you pay for. Tire Rack has the best prices that I could find and they are currently in stock.

http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/resul...5&autoModClar=

I purchase rear ATE Slotted Rotors from Tire Rack about 3k mi ago only because there was a long wait until the Cryo's were due in and I was going on a long road trip so I was forced to buy them. Not to my surprise they are already warped. Tire Rack is taking them back and going to give me credit and exchange for the Cryos.

That said, the ATE pads I purchased at the same time have done well.

Let us know what you decide.

I got brakeplanet.com slotted and drilled rotors and akebono ceramic pads at all four corners, 8 months on them currently and no issues at all.

Low dust, OEM matching braking feel and stopping power, slight grinding feel through the pedal at the end of a hard stop which I'm quite sure it's due to the rotor slotted and drilled surface.

OEM stink IMO and their over priced. My rears warped at 20k miles. A lot of members have had similar experiences. I didn't even bother wasting the money to resurface since it will only make them more prone warping.

I have not tested the powerslot cryos on my GX yet, but I did put them on my Grand Cherokee which had major warping issues. 1 set of OEM and 1 set of Brembos later I purchased the cryos and I never experienced the problems with warping again. They are where it's at in my book!

The GX is already under braked to begin with which explains why so many experience warping. You can send the rotors off to frozenrotors and they will treat them for $50 a plate.

Anyone else with any kind of good rotor experience?

I'm about to pull the trigger on a set of fronts from Frozen Rotors (non-drilled / slottted.) They are pretty pricey, at close to $400 for just the front rotors and a set of Hawk LTS pads.

My rotors are pretty much shot so I'm thinking about putting some of those cryos on the four corners. I've had nothing but trouble with the OEM ones, and but then again, being able to actually stop a heavy vehicle like the GX is kind of important! To the guys who have done a GX brake job themselves, what's a ballpark on the number of hours it will take? Just trying to figure out the total cost to have the local shop put them on vs. doing it myself.
