Default should i go for it or not?

Hello fellow CL Members, I wanted to get some advise from you guys for GX, I've been around CL for a while(ES OWNER) now my wife's been bugging me for a while for a GX, and we've been looking and found couple of good priced GX's. Both are 04 with about 50k miles on them.
Priced at $23k, both have no nav, no ML, no 3rd row seats and no rear entertainment. Now we've never had V8 cars(she drives nissan murano) so we don't really know what to expect on gas and such. is there anything we should look into, any known issues, recalls, problems with GXs? Honestly I would've never thought of getting V8 until recent gas prices, hoping it wouldn't go up as much. how do you like your 3rd row seats, and rear entertainment? any input would be very appreciated.

thanks,
Tae

You dont think the gas price will stay this low for long do you? With that said, the V8 on the GX is not too bad on gas. Real life gas mileage for me was baout !5 MPG city and 19 highway. The 04 GX doesnt not have the VVT-i compare to the 05 and up, so you lose 30 hp but the MPG is about the same.
Things to look out for are: drive train clunk, bad height sensors in the rear, highway drone and vibration and side mirror that dont tilt down when in reverse. All these problems have TSBs on them so you should be ok.

Good Luck

so how do i make sure that these services were performed?
and what is really difference between VVT-i and non VVT-i? i don't really mind about having less hp since my wife will be driving and we won't be towing trailer.

If they pass the drivers test, you can start by asking whomever is selling them if they had any of the TSB performed and if they have receipts. If not, take the VIN# and call up Lexus service and ask them to run the service history. These are just some problems to look out for, it does not mean the truck(s) you are looking at have the issues persay. Good luck, they are great trucks!

I don't like 50K miles, but that's me.

Go for it!

$23K is not too bad. I have 58K on my '05 and it's running like a top. I use the Nav alot, the 3rd row seats from time to time and enjoy the ML sound, but if you don't need these items it's OK.

It is important, however, to check for the TSB's, and if they were not done, to get them done. Good luck!
