Mark, you think the 1600 is too small then?

Dan
Yup! It's big but fits the car perfectly. I figured why not maximze the space and it holds a lot of crap!

You guys that have Thule 1600, 1800, 2100...do you ski/snowboard? I have seen on the thule website that some of the carriers say how many skis/boards they carry. I just wanted some input if you like the carrier over the ski rack. I usually go skiing with another person or two and they usually have boards. I like the idea of a carrier because I can throw my boots and poles in and everything is protected from the elements, salt, etc. I'm 6'6" so I can't see accessing the roof to be hard, unless the carrier is just a pain regardless. So, what size do you think for no more than 5 skiers/boarders equipment? And is the carrier easy to take off when I'm not on a trip?

I have an 1800 and can get 4 sets of skis, boots, and poles into it without too much difficulty. I have always had ski racks and prefer the cargo carrier a lot more. The gear is out of the elements, out of sight, and secure. Getting off of the slopes and throwing all of the wet gear in the carrier is nice; no more driving home with the defroster on high combatting foggy windows the whole way.

For me, the biggest benefit is the ability to use if for other things as well. I can easily pack all of the clothes and accessories for a weeks worth of family vacation. Gives the dog a lot more room, and makes the interior completely clutter free. Everything has always stayed completely dry no matter the weather.

Comes on and off in a few minutes; couldn't be more simple. I bought the $100 lift that Thule sells so that when its not in use I just crank it up into the garage ceiling. You could probably make a lift for cheaper but at $100 it works great for me.

Default Thule Atlantis 1600

I have an Thule Atlantis 1600 I use between the GX and my son's Toyota Highlander. Install time is less than 6 minutes....Price? I found that HumblePower.com consistently sells Thule boxes at 20% less then retail with free shipping. Hope that helps
