I dont know how people are getting mid 16 mpg. My 04 GX has 39k miles, and driven mostly by my wife. The most she is getting is low 14 sometimes 13.4. I dont know why. She is very slow driver. Highway is 18mpg

My wife drives the GX mostly, probably 50/50 city/highway. The on-board computer reads 16.2 mpg. Taking into account ~10% error, I think it's somewhere between 14.5 and 15.0. I would like to be able to get 19-20, but... What can I expect from a 5000 lbs truck (4959 lbs with 3rd row) with a 4.7 liter engine???

If the fuel economy was the the ultimate goal, a $20K Prius would be a much better purchase than a $50K GX On the other hand, there was a reason why we all opted for GX

I just cant get more than 15 at city and 18 on highs......I agree snhrph... GX has got something that all of us fell for it on the first look... Maybe I would consider Prius if the Gas price shoots up considerably high.

I get about 14 city and 19 highway. However, I am coming from a 650HP STi, so my right foot may be a little heavy while I try to adjust.

I got 21.8 MPG in a round trip between Seattle and Vancouver, BC during last weekend. If I wasn't blocked at US board about 1.5 hours, I guess it could be 22+ MPG.

14 MPG sounds more realistic. Mine gets between 13.8 and 14.9

Computer readings don't matter. At least for my '04 it has always been optimistic by 2+mpgs.

I get 14ish driving 90% city normally. I just went from Portland to Seattle round trip, approx 15 miles worth of backup from an accident and or city driving so almost all freeway with the cruise control set at 74mph for 80% and 65 for 20%. Made it 359 miles on one tank ~ 18.17mpg (computer read 21.1mpg)

My wife averages 18-19, about 70% Hwy. I average about the same. Neither one of us has a heavy foot. The most I've gotten is about 20-21 on a road trip.

That sounds a little low hoonami. How are you calculating your mileage?

16 mpg average. Pretty crappy. Went down a good 1-2 mpg with the new 18" 4runner wheels with larger tires. But I knew what I was getting into with this beast so no whining here..........

21.8 mpg according to the onboard computer. 2004 GX with 90K miles and the 90K service just complete. That reading was from a ~400 mile trip from Park City UT to Moab UT and back. Mostly highway (inlcuding an 80 mph stretch of I-80) but plenty of mountain passes, AC required, and not trying to baby the gas pedal. 19.6 mpg if the 10% correction is correct. I'm extremely happy with that, coming out of a 2008 Sequioa which was stuck in the 16s regardless of terrain/driver habits. Very happy with my "downgrade" from toyota to lexus! Will do hand calcs in the future to confirm.

My wife drives our GX the most. Pretty much sticks around 17mpg w/ 91 octane Costco gas Next time we take a long trip I'll do the math in lonhand...until then, I'm very happy getting an overall of 17 with that wonderful V8...my GS gets in the mid to upper 20's around town (but doesn't have quite as much 'kick' to boot)

On a long haul averaging 70mph it will read out 21mpg-before 19mpg. Mix in traffic and my lead foot and it will drop down to 15-16mpg. This is with Pulstar plugs which have improved the MPG , but they are coming out as I had an incident with them in my RL.

Default Mileage Chips

My 04 GX470 gets 15 city and 17 highway with over 100K miles. Love the car but the mileage should be better. Have had dealer maintenance since I bought it so all systems are good. Has anyone had a positive experience installing a mileage chip to improve MPG? Not so worried about increased horsepower.

Coming out of an '07 Tahoe that was getting mid 13's, looks like I'm getting mid 14's in the GX. Yes, I have noted that the computer is a little optimistic when it comes to accurately calculating fuel economy, which is a little disappointing since the one in the Tahoe was dead nuts on. Distance between fill ups is down due to the fact that the Tahoe holds about 25 gallons, but on the bright side, I don't think I'm going to have to worry about $100 trips to the gas station for a while. I don't typically care about gas mileage, I like big trucks and I have a very heavy foot, but when it cost $100 for a fill up, starts to make you think.
