How is your Gas Mileage?

My 04 GX470 gets 15 city and 17 highway with over 100K miles. Love the car but the mileage should be better. Have had dealer maintenance since I bought it so all systems are good. Has anyone had a positive experience installing a mileage chip to improve MPG? Not so worried about increased horsepower.

all figures on 87 ocatane;
originally, ~18.5 mpg hand-calculated with 70% highway (on-board computer read around 2mpg too high)
after install of Thule Hull-a-port Pro kayak carrier (adds a couple of inches height to a maybe 16" cross section of the roof rack), ~17.5mpg
during 2000 mile roadtrip recently with Thule Summit cargo carrier, kayak...16.5 with no wind...14.5mpg in strong cross/headwind limiting speeds to 60-65mph

I have recently taken a nice drive in my '06 GX470, went over two mountain passes, through a few towns for 20 miles, on I-5 for 3 hours, 290 miles total, came away getting 18.7. I drive a little fast, about 5 or 10 over depending on traffic and my mood. So about 75-80 on highway.
I consistently use 91 octane gas, I can get 93 octane, I might try that before my next trip and see what I get. I am happy if its close to 19, if I hit 20 I would be thrilled!
I have noticed that my on board computer is always about 2 MPG's less than actual, so I am always using the calculator on my phone. First time I checked the computer is scared me!!
As a side note my wife was tailing me in the new '07 LX470 we bought in Bend Oregon, she got 16.2, I thought that was a good number!
