Default Rear A/C

Tell me about the rear A/C.

Does it only pump out cold air from the ceiling mounted vents in the second and third row? Any other vents?

When the rear A/C isn't turned on, are the ceiling mounted vents in the second and third row used for anything or are they dedicated to the rear A/C only?

With the temp set up front on the nav screen, does the rear A/C mindlessly keep pumping out cold A/C or does it work in tandem with the computer? The rear A/C has a rudimentary temp gauge. Does it just make the A/C a bit cooler or a bit less cool than the temp set on the nav screen?

What else do I need to know about the rear A/C?! (Wish it was a heater, too. That was a "$14 mistake," as it couldn't have cost much to add the versatility.)

It only pumps out air from the ceiling vents and when the AC is off, it just pump out un-cooled air. There is a AC unit just for the rear AC, so the rear passenger can adjust the rear AC temp.

If the rear unit is turned off, the vents in the 2nd & 3rd row ceiling do nothing - they are dedicated to the rear system. The vents in the ceiling are the only vents for this system.

The rear system is able to pump out air +/- 10 degrees of the front unit temperature, so it works in tandem with the computer with the simple thermostat varying the temperature compared with the front unit. Additionally, you can set the rear fan speed to "auto" if the front unit is blowing air out of the front panel vents.

If you have the front unit set to heat (floor vents active), there is really no need to run the rear unit since the heat will blow under the front seats to circulate to the 2nd row. Since heat rises, the vents in the ceiling would just serve to provide some circulation.

Hope this helps.

I like setting it in auto in the rear then. Seems like that way it'll do the thinking for me assuming it'll auto on / off itself once the truck reaches the desired temp. Thanks!
