Default Black paint on GX question

How does it hold up? I know black is notorious for swirls, etc. on all brands including other Lexus models. Anyone in "wintery" climate want to chime in?

Drove a friend's last night at length, I'm sold on it, feel foolish now having considered other SUV/crossovers to replace our Sienna...

I love the black, his is white, considering both... new 09...

THX for the input

i have 53k on my 06 with the black onyx paint and it has no swirl marks at all. it also has no metallic in the paint which i think makes it easier to buff.

I have a black 2006 GX and the paint looks good as new. No swirl marks.

I've had 4 other black cars including the SC400, SC430, and BMW X5. The paint on the GX is the best so far.

Antonio.

i have 03 onyx black. i polish, buff, wax once every year (maguiars 3step) and my bro who drives an 06 X5 black still envies mine when we park side by side. somehow lexus onyx black seem to have a deeper black... don't stare too long at it, you might get lost in there.

Good to hear you're having such great luck with that color, it can be difficult at times!

Black is a profession to keep looking excellent, not a hobby. Regardless of the brand of car. It all depends on what you consider looking excellent. I would recommend reading around in the auto detailing section of this forum for further information on the durability of black paint. Lexus clearcoat tends to be soft, and can be swirled easily if you don't take proper precautions. Black just shows the swirls easier than silver or white.

I have had black trucks as well . It all depends on "who" and "what" used on it.
They are hard to keep "perfect" but they are the best looking vehicle out there.

I own a 2003 and the paint looks excellent. I don't even know if I ever waxed it, but after a good wash it still looks like new and I have over 120K on it.

Actually, I think the color on your 2006 GS is the same, Black Onyx. In 2007, the GS black changed to Obsidian, which has a clear coat. Black Onyx is a single-stage color.

The white on the GX is beautiful.

I had the Black on a 1997 Toyota Avalon, 1997 Lexus LS400, and a 2000 Lexus RX300 never had a problem. When shined up these cars looked like they were wet.

oH, my GS shines like new after a good wash 'n wax...but it's when you walk up close to it, that's when you see all the imperfections... and I mean ALL of them.

The black GX takes a lot of work to keep clean. I just polished and waxed the car and it looks great. I think, that I would go with the white if I were you. I always like to have a clean looking car, but the black takes a lot more work to maintain.I wash the car every week, because I cannot stand to look at the dust build up on the paint. When the car is clean it looks great though. I would not let the dealership clean the car though. They did a "detail" and left all sorts of swirl marks. I had to buff them all out.
