Just joined the forum and have already came across some useful info. I purchased a 2004 GX 470 with 60k miles in silver pine metallic. I'm asuming by reading the threads that I will have to perform the fluid replacements. The truck originated in Rochester New York and I wasn't able to find service records. I purchased the truck for $22,500 and added a 4 year/48k extended warranty from Peoples choice(at an additional $2300 bumper to bumper). This seems to be a good price from my 3 month research. If there is anything I should know or check please post. Thanks

Is that true? I've been here for years and only in the recent weeks have I seen a couple of mentions of this (which doesn't warrant "known for leaking radiator" reputation), but perhaps I just missed it...

I cannot say its very common, but people who mention about this problem had 2004 GX. The problem is rust. Mine started to leak due to rust. Not because radiator failed. I replaced mine when my car had 36k miles.

I'm glad you posted the rust issue. When I purchased the truck I had the dealership(Not Lexus) strip my wheels and repaint them due to blistering. I also was concerned with the rusting of the undercarriage. They assured me it was due to heavy snowfalls in Rochester New York(where my GX came from)and it was only surface rust. They sanded the undercarriage and coated it with a black rubberized treatment/paint. I wasn't so much concerned with light rust on the frame and metal components as I was with electrical harnesess and front/rear end components. They also replaced all rotors and pads as the rotors were warped. I would not have purchased the truck without the 4/48 bumper to bumper extended warranty.

My car is from East Coast too, I have a lot of rust. Keyes Lexus assured me it's only surface and nothing else. The only damage that rust did it was radiator. I sprayed the bottom of my car with product called Plasti Dip.

I'm assuming Plasti Dip is similar to the rubberized coating they used on my truck. I have a question that is off topic but recently when I start my truck the MAINT REQD blinks for about 5 seconds than disappears. Is this a normal "scheduled reminder" for 60k service or is it something that needs immediate attention. Thanks

It's normal, it's a warning that your about due for an oil change. Sooner or later it will stay lit until it's reset when the oil is changed. If you do your own maint you can reset it yourself.

Thank you for your response. The oil was changed when I purchased the truck, I will search to see how you reset the light.

Maint. Req is blinking its normal eventually you would need to reset it. Yes plasti dip is very similar to rubberized coating that they used on your truck.
