Ok, finally got my hands on a working 5.1 - 8.1 gen 4 hybrid for my 2006 gx470...

Popped it in, pulled the radio 1 fuse....loaded up the new rom and the OVERRIDE does work, however, I can't enter an address. I hit address and nothing happens (the national region map disappears)...... Guidance works for favorites such as home etc....but I can't enter address, POI's etc...

Also, is there any way to get to the service menue to set the OVERRIDE using the standard 9.1, 8.1, 7.1 etc? Or is it with a hybrid only?

Hybrid works in 5.1/6.1 combination. Starting with 7.1 (I think) the indexing changed and the hybrid process does not work anymore. The indexes are not accessible hence you can't lookup any addresses or points of interest. I don't know what the override combination is for 6.1+ disks.

 

If this were the case, then why would people still be talking about making the hybrid discs. I mean, what is the point in making them if they don't do anything?

Well, You tried it and you saw the results. Something was changed between 6.1 and 7.1 . 6.1 used the same file structure as 5.1, so it was easy to make a hybrid just by copying the boot files from 5.1. The boot files from 5.1 were still pointing to the same indexes and dbs that exist in 6.1. With 7.1 that structure changed. Some additional files were added and the links were broken. Maybe someone found a way to reconnect the links, but I don't think so. The only thing that works when you make the hybrid - updated maps are loaded and displayed.
