Sounds like you locked the center differential or transfer case (I believe the button is on the left lower dash. There should be an indicator on your dash I believe. Don't drive/turn on streets like that. It cannot handle that stress. It is for offroad/dirt where the wheels can 'slip'. You will destroy your center diff/transfer case.

Once you 'unlock' it, drive backwards slowly for about 5 feet to let it unbind. I had to do that when I accidentally did the same thing as you and it too a little backwards movement after unlocking it for it to fully disengage.

Not sure how locking the diff would produce the symptoms described, can't move the shifter out of park?

Me neither. Running in low range for an extended time would cause a transmission overheat, though, just from the high RPMs at the transmission.

I had a similar problem before and it was when I locked the diffs so they did not allow slip. I believe it was when I hit the button on the dash on the lower left with the four lines representing the areas of the four wheels all connected to a center line with an 'X'. I did not put the transmission into low. I think I put it into H. So it was some combination of H and the center locking on. I was experiencing the wheel scrub and issues when turning but straight was fine. I read around and people said to not do that on paved roads since it puts too much stress on the drivetrain when turning.
Regarding not being able to move and stuff like that, that is something I did not experience.
