Default little benefit of a new nav dvd

I just bought and installed the new nav maps for my '07 gx (with gen5 nav).

It's my first update. The maps were getting pretty stale.

A nice benefit is that they no longer force me to press "I agree" to get to the map screen. It shows the warning for a few seconds & automatically navigates to the map view, which is nice.

Clearly not worth the $$ for this alone, but it's a nice bonus.

Hi. If I may ask how much you paid and where did you buy. I have my Navi giving me hard time, does not exactly giving my location. I do not know if it is a disk or antenna giving this problem. If you know anything, please share. Thank you.

I bought the disc from sewell lexus: http://www.sewellpartsonline.com/ -- $199 w/a possible $50 rebate. I've purchased a bunch of parts from them over the years and they've been great.

I have no idea whether this would address your issue. Have your roads changed a ton in your area in the past 3yrs? IMHO it sounds like you're losing your gps signal for some reason, rather than having an issue w/the disc. My understanding is the disc is primarily just map info.

Still, not a super expensive thing to try, and worst case you're out $199 but have better maps and a still flaky nav.

I think they give more attention to updating the POI data than the actual road changes - so if you look up a lot of eating places or hotels, etc, you might find more new places. I use the POI features very little so it's not worth updating for that.

I just this year update the original disc in my 2004 - the freeway system in Salt Lake City had major changes - so much that all the exit numbers and layouts had changed - so I was glad to get the updated maps. But I bought a 'used' disc from someone who had bought the latest version an was selling their old one (but newer than mine).

They should have a way - web site or something - where you could tell if the latest disc showed road changes you care about. The road updates are soooo slow to come, and it's too much $$$$ to spend to find out there's really no difference in the driving area you care about.

There is a website to check to find out what updates have been made to the disks on the Lexus website...here's a link.

http://www.lexusnavigation.com/index.php

The release notes are the detailed descriptions of what changes they added...hope someone finds this useful!
