Default Rolling backwards on an incline..NORMAL??

So i have noticed that my 2007 GX470 (i'm the only owner, 25,000 miles) tends to roll backwards when i am stopped on an incline while its in drive and i remove my foot off the brake. Has anyone else experienced this? I have owned many cars and i don't recall this happening, maybe on my dad's dodge back in the '60s but come on this is a 2007 Lexus....the STEALER says its normal. Scares the heck out of my wife when it happens!!!!

I would say that is normal. Unless the GX470s come with the Incline Start Assist feature available on some Subarus. This feature is designed for when a vehicle starts off on a hill, the brake remains on for approximately one second after the driver removes his or her foot from the brake to prevent the vehicle from rolling backward.

The GX 470 did come with Hill-Start Assist (also currently available or standard on the LX 570 and RX 350/450h). This is a brief description as it applies to GX 460:

Edmunds.com's review indicates that the HAC system was standard on the GX 470, although sometimes they get details wrong:

Here are some user reports:

Some procedures according to this Toyota site, may apply to GX 470:

In order to engage hill assist you need to be in Drive, stopped, the parking brake off, then press very firmly down on the brake pedal till the indicator light comes on and you hear a beep. Hill assist kicks in and holds the vehicle in place for several seconds and releases immediately when you press on the gas.
Apparently the skid light activates when this feature is working.

Default I don't thnk I have HAC

I stopped on the steepest hill ( or clsoe to it) in Seattle. Pushed on the brake pedal, held it there and nothing. Tired it many different times - even used a different leg. nada. Are you sure all GX470s have it? Or is there something wrong with the vehicle. It is not working right or is it me. 2006 GX470. Hmmm!

I take my vehicle into the mountain and off ight roading. Never had it working.
