Default Doing some lighting.

Wassup CL! It is time for me to get rid of those yellow lights with LEDs and HIDs! The HIDs are going to be from HIDextra Low Beam and Fogs. My question is that how do we remove the two front dome light, I can't seem to find a way to change the lights, and what is the best way to change the door lights the ones that are on the door, I want to remove it by not scratching the interior. One last thing, how do we remove the step lights, the one on the outside I want to change those to LED too. Or should I just take it to Lexus and ask them to help me remove them (if they they charge) because I'm going to take the GX to get the oil changes. Thanks ahead!

Brian..thedome light near the driver area. if you observe them closely around the mid region of both covers they have got a small step. wherein you may have insert the phillips (-) ensure you have the right one to fit in. Insert it ensure to push the screw driver to the top side, while you while see the cover coming out. Ensure minimal pressure to be applied & you see the cover coming out. thats it, replace the same way back. I had recently changed all the covers as all were kinda yellowish, and quite dim. hope this helps

I just removed the front panel from our GX470. You have to slide your philips head screw driver between the headliner and the frontmost part of the panel (closest to the windshield). Once that gives way and you could fit your fingers in there, give it a tug and the panel should snap down. There are two tabs that hold it in. If your truck has Lexus Link, you will have two wires hooked into the panel. If not, you will only have one. Just disconnect the wire and you are ready to work.

I have not really had time to mess with the door lights. Those are tricky. I tried using a philips head screw driver but didn't have any luck.

For the running board lights, get under the truck and twist the bulb assembly. Once you twist it, the assembly comes down and you just pull out the bulb. Replace with an LED and then twist the other way back in. Just be careful of flying crud falling into your eyes and mouth. You should probably wear goggles and keep your mouth close!

Hope these visuals images help in doing it without much damage. I used a Leatherman, as that was sharper to insert the point wherein thh first image shows.( Ignore the Philips Insert as that was not much help)
2. The second image shows slight pressure used to slide out the lens cover, as that is only place you should use and not around.
3. The image shows how the refit is done, Ensure the slot part of the lens is insert first and Lens push lock mechanism is done at the rear for locking.
4. The view after fit.
Hope this helps. So long !!

And I fully agree with Mark on the removal part of the tricky bulbs, mine were just glued, One took around 30mts, all I was just twisting it and never it did come out, and finally I had crush those bulbs, as i ran out of patience. ( Did wear those coolers, infact looked like a blind guy tring to remove those bulbs )

Chris these I picked abt a year back at Singapore, and they are SMD LEDs which are different to normal LEDs , Abbreviation is Surface Mounted Diodes, they are more brighter than the normal LEDs. Its like daylight inside the cabin, as the spread of the beam on a wider pattern unlike single LEDs which are focused on a area itself. These last longer as they have the CBs and minute relays to hold for any possible flash power if in case and never gets fused. Each of these single SMDs produce over 25 watts. If you see I have in each housing 18 on a single strip which are like 450 watts output. And they are damm cheap in the Far east. And can fit to any housing type of bulb as they provide adapter to whichever bulb type, all you have it just get it connected. I will post a snap of the complete cabin light when they are illuminated and post it here. You will have an idea.

Thanks guys! I'm searching for the right LEDs right now, I don't really want to spend more then $100 on LEDs but its hard to find matching DE3175 and 194 on ebay. I'm a really picky guy and I want it to be the same color or it can be a little off, that you can not tell from a far distance.

The DE3175 and 194 are both available on vleds.com in 6K white.

Question about HID do they void your factory warranty because my dad said "he called lexus and they said that they would do so" but I don't believe him. Because I know that it does not affect the engine. Its basically saying that if your light bulb dies you can't change it.

not w/ my dealer they didn't nor should they w/ any since it's plug-n-play... at least w/ the XenonDepot (a forum sponor) kit as you're not cutting any wires etc.

Worst case scenario, if you have a warranty claim, just unplug the aftermkt HID bulbs/harness, put your OEM bulbs back in, take in for service and reinstall HID bulbs/wiring upon return

If you are looking at upgrading the interior lighting I would highly recommend these -

Putco Universal 9-piece 1" x 1" Map Light

http://www.kbcarstuff.com/Universal_...1_p/980112.htm

Putco LED Dome Light Bulb 3022 3021 DE3175

http://www.kbcarstuff.com/Putco_Prem...5_p/230125.htm

These lights are going to be the brightest and most durable LED upgrade that you can do. They are really easy to install and come with a lifetime warranty.

Unlike lower cost alternatives, these lights will be able to dim on/off. Lower grade LED bulbs will simply cut on/off. Please view this link for a video of these dome lights in action:
