2007 GX Tow Prep Package
#16
Darrel,
Thanks! Just got your email...so before I add to my cart i need a green dot in the Bracket, relay box (green) and Fuse box relay(requires 2, shown)? As well as the correct color cover? Then additionally I need to order the wire harness...That is where the two wire harness plugs to the drivers side of my spare tire will come into play? I will respond to your email but I thought this info may be good displayed here as well.

SmittysGX,
I think with CL preferred pricing its around $85.
Darrel, thanks again for the follow up info. Still curious what the tow rating is for that integral hitch? I have seen everything from 1500 lb to 5000lb?

I just got a 2007 GX470 and purchased the class iv hitch. I do not know if I have the tow prep package, how do I tell? the rear bumper cover does not have a notch in it, would that indicate I do not have the prep package? can anyone post a picture of the hitch mounted on their vehicle?
In the picture below, is a picture of my former '04 GX 470 which came with a Trailer Package.
I installed a Curt Hitch. At the time, Lexus only made the Plain Cover and the cover with a Notch. Later, Lexus made the cover without the notch, but with a hump in it.
Because, the GX came with a Trailer Package, the area where the Notch was, stuck out a bit and did not allow the Plain Cover to be installed.
So, I took my SawZall and cut out what was in the way.

No, it's a prep package. If you have it, you'll have an extra transmission cooler in front of your radiator, just under the horns. And the wiring to support the 7-pin connector (although some people have reported needing some relays added).

Thanks, I just purchased the vehicle and still learning the ins and outs. I saw the plug for the trailer lights and what looked like a removable section of the bumper cover...I thought/assumed there was a receiver behind it. Silly me.
There are four threaded holes with bolts already in place where a receiver would go. Can I just mount one there?

There's two styles of hitches available - the "pintle" hitch and the frame-mount hitch. The Lexus parts guide says the pintle style can tow up to 6500 pounds, but given that it just bolts to a crossmember and not the frame rails, a number of people are skeptical of that claim. I would go with the frame mount hitch.
Don't automatically assume the dealer is super expensive on this - once you include shipping in the comparison (shipping cost is included in the dealer price), the factory hitch might be the better option. ( the frame mount hitch would have to be truck-shipped because of it's weight & size).
Installation is do-able by a very fit person working alone, but it's way easier to have a helper.
