Hi, all.
My front side brakes are due for replacement. Upon taking one of the front tires off, I found the construction of the caliper was pretty simple such that brake pad replacement is rather easy. It was until I found that this part (pointed in the pictures) was stuck and would not come out.
I applied WD-40 and PB lubricant several times hoping to loosen it up a bit. The effort seemed to be useless.
Can any one you experts shed some light on this issue? Should I just return the pads and go to the dealer or independent mechanics. Either way, I suspect they have the same issue I have. What could they have done differently?
Thanks again for your help.

sorry, pic no worky
That said, presumably you're referencing a retaining bolt or pin. On brake and exhaust parts, and aside from using PB Blaster over WD-40, you should let it soak in for a few days (like 5-7 while respraying daily) before attempting. Also, applying a little bit of concentrated heat may assist.
As you said, even if you return to indy or dealer, they most likely will be dealing w/ frozen bolt too. Only upsides are:
- it'll be their headache now
- they typically deal w/ a lot more frozen bolts/parts than you do (daily)
- if they quote you firm price for entire brake job, they have to eat the extra time/effort put into job. But know since jobs are quoted using repair/reference manual stds, the frozen bolt headache is already anticipated and accounted for $-wise...
Good luck but try letting the PB Blaster work in a few more days and/or a little concentrated heat. What you don't want is to sheer it off and then have to drill out and re-tap...

BurgBoxstr] Thanks for the encouragement ^^ I'll be more patient and apply the lubricant a few more times before giving up.
mann777] Thanks again for your information (In case you don't remember, you answered my question on window malfunction after the batter disconnection ^^). It seems like I got stuck at procedure 2. As BurgBoxstr mentioned above, I can't get the anti-rattle because both of them are frozen.
By the way, the outer brake pad is about twice thinner than the inner one. Doesn't it mean two inner pistons are not working?
Thanks both of you again for your help. It's a lot of fun doing DIY on my car
My next project will be changing differential fluids (Thanks to mann777's instruction).

To me seems the Caliper Pistons are fried, that is why you have different pad measurments of its usuage. Dont try them recovering as the Push Spring with the Pistons Have them replaced completely, CL members get a good discount from Sewell. Could yu throw in some snaps. of the Shims which are frozen.
