Default Replace tires or not?

I have 4/16" on the front and 6/16" on the rear. Should I just rotate the tires and get through the winter with them and replace next fall? I won't drive in snow except for perhaps 1 or 2 trips to Tahoe this winter. I have 53K miles on OEM Bridgestones. If it weren't for winter, I'd go other 7K miles and replace them at 60K.

6/32's should be fine, But the 4/32's should be replaced IMO. If not, definetly put the 6/32's on the front in case you have to avoid something in the rain.

When its time to replace, switch to Michelin or Yokohama IMO. Check the ratings on tirerack.com and you will see the Bridgestones and the OEM Dunlops rank poorly.

Actually, I found out that the best tires should be in the rear, not the front! Luckily, I decided not to be cheap and got 4 new Michelin Cross Terrains. Now I'm $900 poorer, but at least safer. When I was waiting at Costco, they had a video showing why the better tires need to be in the rear. Also, they will not install 2 new tires in front.

Wow, very interesting. Goes against everything i was told. Front tires obviously does the handling and primary braking, i think its something like 60%-40% braking coming from the front tires. I wonder if there is a link describing those findings? Anyways, you can't go wrong with Michelins. I have heard great reviews about the new LTX MS2's as well.

What a surprise. Good info. I noticed both cars on the track were front wheel drive models? I wonder if all wheel drive vehicles are affected the same? Either way, Its good intel. Thanks

Wow!! Im with you ROSCO, I have always put the new set up front. I agree, this is good info however I think the tests may be slightly different with rear wheel drive vehicles and all time 4 wheel. I can yell ya this, if your gonna have a blowout, it better be one of the back tires I have had the unfortunate experience of both the front and rear blow outs. When changing just two tires on my vehicles, I will still put them on the front, heck a little over steer is fun
