Default Rear bumper cover

How hard is this to remove?

Today, like a dumb@ss, when backing into my driveway I hit a snow bank which was made of ice and kindly took off two large swaths of paint -- one about and inch square and the other about the size of your average thumb.

I'm pretty bummed as the exterior of my GX used to be flawless and I want to get this fixed ASAP. Any suggestions or ideas of what this will cost to get fixed will be GREATLY appreciated!

Sorry to hear about that. FWIW, I can relate... My wife backed our flawless GX into a friends car at a party, in MA no less. Funny thing was (well not really funny), she was actually moving it so nobody would park next to it and ding our doors Just goes to show you, no good deed goes unpunished!

In my case it actually damaged the plastic so the whole cover needed to be replaced. Total bill was around $800 for a new bumper cover and paint. This was a very high-end body shop. If I recall correctly the paint work was about $450.

Most plastic bumpers can be repaired with tears or scrapes pretty easily.

The bumper comes off, gets repaired and painted. Then snapped back on.

If it's just paint, it's under $1K, and you could probably get it done for $500 cash

Thanks for the replies.. I was so bummed last night that I went out and bought some silver touch up paint from Autozone and filled in the chips. I looks crappy up close but from a few feet away, it is not that noticeable. I found a silver bumper cover last night on Ebay that looked mint on the pics for ~200 shipped, almost bought it until I discovered that half of it was primed.

I think I am going to wait until the end of the winter to do anything and take this as a lesson. I wasn't being careful and I could have caused much greater damage.

For when I decide to do something about it: Does anyone know how difficult it is to take the rear bumper cover off? It looks simple enough but curious to know if anyone has done it and what it entails.

THANKS!

Painted my entire rear bumper cover and blended the wheel well fairings to match for $400 3 months ago. No special price, just walked in to a local autobody shop with cash. Good luck, wait until winter is over IMO, why have to do it twice.

Richards Motor cars in Malden, MA 781-322-6600. They sell luxury cars but also have a mechanics and auto body shop. They do really nice work. Its on route 99 near the Town Line Billiards.
