Can I drive with the rear door open
I would like to carry a long 15 ft log cut for a bench in my truck. To do this I would have to leave my rear door open and tie the door down with rope so it won't move.
Is this ok? I just don't want the door to get weaken.

i would imagine if you went slow it would be fine. the only thing i would worry about is too many speed bumps, expansion joints, etc. that is a lot of weight way out past the hinges - would would be worried about tweaking something with a big bump, but i think it should be fine for a quick one timer.

if it were a split door like a van, you could be okay. With just the single swing out, I'd suggest not attempting w/o bracing the door really well and even then...
Even if you could secure the door properly, your bigger concern would be the 15' log. I'm not sure how you would be able to support it fully to prevent damage... Suggest you might want to instead rent a Budget moving truck or Enterprise box van or truck for the day to safely move and secure your timber.

I agree on the Uhaul option. It's $19.95 in town, or get a trailer for $9.95.
Think of it this way, what if you did damage your rear door beyond simple repair?
No thanks. You need to make a new friend that owns a truck.

I've moved lumber of varying sizes in the GX before but nothing that big that required the door to stay open. I also loaded in a bunch of PVC pipes for rolling a shed from one side of the yard to another. (The towels around the front of the pipes came loose and scraped the hell out of my dash.) Do yourself a favor and just rent a van or a trailer. At least then you know that your interior & door stay safe. Beat the hell out of the rental. That's why you pay them $19.99.

Id have to agree, uhaul trailer rentals and even truck rentals at the home stores themselves are too affordable as better options. Thats probably the one thing I miss about my pickup, hauling dirty crap and long items...oh well small price to pay I guess.
