Can anyone point me to a write up, or any useful info on doing a transmission fluid change on a 2003?

I've searched here, and everything I found applies to later model years with no transmission dipstick - which my 2003 has.

The only thing I can find in the manual is that it takes "up to" 3.2 qts of Toyota T-IV fluid.

I'm wondering if the 3.2 qts. includes the torque converter, so should I expect less to drain out? I'm assuming that you can refill through the dipstick tube?

If that's the case, then I'll just do a change of the ATF with my next couple oil changes.

Redline's application guide shows their D4 ATF as applicable where Toyota T-IV is the required fluid. Anyone have any experience with this? I'd much rather use the Redline fluid if I can.

i think it takes more like 12 quarts, your number is for just what is in the pan, you need to flush out the entire system to make is worth doing. Also i believe the OEM fluid is a synthetic which should be good for almost 100,000 miles if you are not towing.

You are suppose to replace the transmission fluid on a 2004 at 60,000 mi

As for your transmission being a 2003, it should be really easy because you can check the level after you refill it with the dipstick. Everyone else has to go through the process below. Both transmissions should hold about the same amount of fluid.

I have to say i like to do all my own services on all my cars and trucks and when i see this process on how to change the tranny fluid on my 2004 gx i ask why the hell would they do that. Why would they create a closed unit i love checking the fluids it make me feel better. Anyway i guess i will have no other choice and bring it to dealer.

You are not supposed to replace the transmission oil, the WS standard once filled, needs topping at service intervals after its inspections, as they last the lifetime of the truck.

Thats not what the document NBEIHL states!!! 60 k it should be changed. Im totally against when someone says fluid is good for life of vehicle give m a dam break!! No matter i will schedule a time with dealer within the next year and schedule a time for a tranny service. What ever they recommend or do in a tranny service is more then not doing anything at all. I don't have the truck here with me to check the owner's manual, but I'm fairly certain it shows the trans fluid being replaced at 60K.

Isn't it only the '04 and later trucks with the supposedly "lifetime" fluid? (And no trans dipstick)

Either way, "lifetime" fluid or not, mine is getting changed. Whether I do it or my Toyota dealer does it is the question at this point.
