Which HID kit to get for the GX?
Hello all,
I have been viciously doing my homework on learning about HID kits, and I would like input from anybody that has purchased an HID kit for the GX within the last few months, which has met expectations in visibility, brightness, and quality.
First, I am posting this thread here because the GX uses H11 bulbs for the low-beam headligths, and a kit that works well with certain type of bulbs, may not necessary work well four our GX, as the bulb design differs.
Regarding color, I think 4300K would be great, but provided that these are difficult to find, I would even go for a 6000K kit, as long as it doesnt have ANY blue to it.
I am aware that most HID kits are 35W, but I know that there are some kits out there that are 55W, or even 70W. Has anybody used kits of higher power (>55W) on the GX? Any inputs on that? - 70W may melt stuff, but 55W may work, and if it works, then it would probably work very well.
The story: I bought an HID kit for the GX not too long ago, and they gave me "6000K" bulbs, which looked awefuly blue. I then ordered "5000K" bulbs, which were also awefully blue (See attached photos), and nearly every vehicle with hallogen headlights had more light output than I did, as I could see my shadow (my hat and all) in front of me at every traffic light stop. I then switched back to my factory hallogens for the sake of safety, and will drive on hallogens until I find an HID kit that is up to par.
Recommendation for people out there buying kits: Be careful. Not all kits are the same.
Additionally, I do not want to purchase from Mod-Express.com because as seen in a video that is circulating on youtube, a guy got three different ballast replacements from mod-express, and the light output is terrible, it looks blue, and flickering of the lights is noticeable: I'll hunt down this video and add it later as a reply to this thread.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, if you have bought an HID kit for your GX within the last couple of months and the light output, color, and quality meets Lexus standards, Please reply to this thread, as many GX owners here may benefit from using the same vendors. If possible, pictures would also be appreciated.
The following are pictures that I took of the kit that I purchased, and later removed. Note the blueish appearance. They were also super dim.

I will tell you no BS! xenondepot.com you may pay a few more bucks, but their stuff rocks! Top notch quality and service (Steve aka xenondepot on this site) for color I have both their 4300K and 5k kit--I prefer the 5K because it has a hint of blue--small hint and it is very nice I have both low and fogs from them running on 2 years with ZERO issues. DO not get anything other than the 35W kit! the others overdrive the bulbs and they will see death rather quickly. They rock as redrocks has stated as well

Those with the 4300K and 5000K, If the hassle permits, could you post a quick cell phone pic of your GX's with the lights on just to see what your outcome was with your kits?
Thank you!

I just put 5000k for the low beams and a 3000k yellow for my fog lights and it's amazing. I peered mine off eBay for 70 for both and I am very happy. It does have a slight blue tint very close to factory. Both of ,ine are 35w.

Booyah, that looks very good!
In the last pic (open hood) i see a slight hint of blue, though its a nice one. Does that pic depict the 4300K as well? - Thanks for adding the pics. They are really worth a thousand words.

The more I think about it, these may be my 5K all around! Like I said there is not much differance, the 4300 is just pure white and the 5K just a very very hint of blue. You cant go wrong with either one really. I did not notice any differance in light output either--both nice and bright, I do like the 5K better-- Call Steve at Xenondepot and chat with him and you can order right over then phone)

Hands down, go w/ forum sponsor XenonDepot/KBcarstuff a/k/a Steve. Top provider and stands behind his products 1000%. I have their XtremeHID 5000k kit for 3.5yrs now. With a very good quality kit, like Steve's, all you need are 35W bulbs...

THanks for the feedback guys! We certainly do our best to offer you guys the best quality HID kits and service :-)
oardila99 - Looks like you've got some good information already. I personally am a fan of 4300k for the brightest, whitest, and most OEM look/feel.
FYI - ClubLexus members get a $25 discount by using coupon code "CL" upon checkout.
