OK what gives? (Fuel economy)
OK, someone explain these numbers on my last 2 tanks on my 2004 GX470
254 miles
16.3 mpg average (according to computer)
17.3 gallons added
32 miles left (according to computer)
276 miles
16.8 mpg average
17.8 gallons added
24 miles left
It has a 23 gallon tank right? How can I have 32 miles left but I only put in 17.3 gallons? There is a huge inconsistency here, I assume the computer estimate of mpg is the wrong number. But still, shouldn't I be getting more than 275 miles per tank??

Your assumption about computer is correct - the general consensus is that the OBC is about 10% too optimistic.
As far as the amount of gas that you can put into your tank... 23 gallons in the overall tank volume. OBC shows the remaining mileage WITHOUT taking into the account the reserve. If you ever run your tank down to ZERO miles left (which I do not advise to do), there is still a small amount of gas left in your tank. So even in that scenario you will put LESS than 23 gallons into your tank.
The most gas that I ever had to put into the tank was slightly more than 22 gallons in my 2007 4Runner.
If you want to know the exact gas mileage of your truck, you need to calculate it manually. Also, 1 or 2 tank fills are not enough to account to variations, you need to least 1000 miles to have a decent average.
