When I started the vehicle this morning and shifted into reverse, nothing happened. I turned the car off and restarted it. It made a noise and I shifted back into park. The A/T P light came on. Any suggestions?

There are three locations you have a problem.
1. Shift Solenoid Valve (3 Valves) all located within the trans
2. Below the Gear lever you have the Shift Lock Control Module...which needs to be checked
3. The Reverse Gear Clutch ( #3) is defective.

Go to any Autozone, get the OBD tool to scan the results and let us know what are the fault codes found.

I will get the code reader and let you know. Does the tranny need to come out in order to fix any of the things that you listed?

Check your backup lights (white ones) at least in the 80 series Landcruiser if the bulb burns then it won't let you shift. Maybe the same?

Yes if it is the First and the Third One. The Second One is fixed from the Gear Lever and trims removal.

Appearently my kids got into the car and somehow kicked the transfer case into neutral. I put it back and now everything is fine... Go figure. Thanks for all the help on here!!

oh yea, we fotgot about that one, LOL, just goes to show, when you hear hoof beats behind you, its usually horses (or kids) , not zebras....
