My wife has a 2005 GX470 that we had for a few years with zero issues. The truck now has 90k and I have a option to buy at a "friend is a dealer" price a 2009 GX with 30k miles they just took on a trade. Our 05 runs line a champ and it paid for. Only issue is that it will need brakes and the timing chain/water pump soon. She love that truck and does not want to get rid of it......

So am I crazy to buy it for myself?? I always liked her 05 but thinking how many people have 2 of the exact same cars in the garage.......kind of odd?

We had two Jeep Grand Cherokee LImited's, until I bought my GX. Identical in every way, except color. Kind of like twins in the garage. It does take away the mistery of buying a new car. If it fits your needs as well, buy it. At least you know all of the things to look out for up front, before you purchase the truck. Do your homework up front. Good luck. Worse case, your wife likes yours better and takes it.

Well I hope the color is different? It's hard to get to much of a good thing. Good luck trying to keep the 09 for yourself.

I am in the SAME boat. We need another SUV and my spouse is driving 2010 RX350 and I thought about buying another RX but it seems ODD to same 2 RX'es in the garage.......

It's no crazier than me owning a GX an 80 Series LandCruiser and also a 40 Series LandCruiser. Get it and have both, why not?

So not too odd....cool!

My wife's is a Meridian Blue with grey interior. The 09 is Onyx Black with beige interior. So they are semi close in color but different interior. My wife's has the RSES but the 09 does not but to be honest, we rarely use the system much even though we have 2 kids. They seem to me more into their DS games and iPods now then watching a movie on long trips. Also they are starting to just look out the window, a novelty to them! If they only knew how many trips I took as a kid with a window and that is it!!

I already know that after driving the 09 she will come around with the newer one. That is actually my sneaky plan. I hope by the end of winter she will want to drive the 09 over the 05 and I will then sell the 05 and pick up a 08-09 is350 or Gs350 for myself!!!

i don't think its odd at all, especially if you like it and its practical for you. I've driven by houses with 2 of the same vehicles in the driveway. there was 3 supra's in my family at 1 time...mine, and both of my brothers.

Great idea on switching out for the GS or IS.

I have a GS and my wife has the GX...we love them!

There is nothing odd about it... If you can swing it financially - then go for it.

We bought my wife's GX new in 06, and I fell in love with it. I wanted one for myself as well, but could not justify having two $50K trucks. So I bought the GXs brother - a new 2007 4Runner.

But beware, after owning a truck you may not want to drive a car...

In the process of getting it. Have checked out 2 GX'es (06 and 07 with 62k and 80k miles respectively) and really like both, today I will checked out a 2010 X5d with 29k. Will probably buy one before year end.
