Default New to Forum with a 2006 GX470

Hello everyone. We have a 2006 GX470 with 90k and love the vehicle. I need to perform the 90K service and would like to do it myself. My skills with auto repair are good to above average and I work on other cars quite often.

My questions for those in the know with Lexus are as follows:

- Where is the best place to get the parts for the timing belt and water pump?
- Best place for a factory service manual? Not the Haynes etc...

Thanks!

Call John Hocker, he is the parts manager at Sierra Toyota in your neck of the woods.

http://sierratoy.com/ourteam.html

Parts are Toyota, tell him you are member of the Toyota Land Cruiser Association and will get a 25% discount

I know lexus sewell is popular with the group (supporting vendor).

I had some issues with them but they have apologized and thus would buy from them again.

+1 for Sewell parts, However my friend is a mechanic and he says the timing belt replacement for our GX is a little tricky and he seems to think you need some sort of tool to line up something that he dosent have access to, Does this sound right?

not sure what you're asking... but

the production numbers for the 4th gen 4R v8 + GX 470 must be something in the six figure range.

it's nothing so tricky that the cost of service and parts should exceed $1500 no matter which market you live in. this would include the water pump replacement. for just the timing belt alone, closer to $1k. typical timing belt job. tricky only matters if it increases the number of labor hours in the books to the point where our trucks cost X% to get the job done.

no anomalies here. no sweat.

Default 90k service

just had the 90k service done on my 04 gx, labor at a good indy cost me a little less than 400. this included waterpump, belt, tensioners, coolant, 4 tire rotate and balance, and general inspection. i opted not to do a few things on the 90k list that lexus has. other fluids i had recently done, other filters were not dirty. i'm pretty **** about maintenance, and do most myself, but for 400 labor, i couldnt pass that up. got the parts from Sewell as well. another satisfied customer here.
if yuo decide to do it yourself, there are a number of writeups online. i saw a really good one with good pics on a tundra forum for the 4.7l motor.
good luck!

Thanks everyone. Our 2006 is Savannah metallic with the ivory interior. I will check out Sewell for the parts. Has anyone see a good write up of the timing belt replacement? Does anyone know of a vendor that I can get a GX service manual from?

Merry Christmas

Default timing belt walkthrough

check this link.

http://www.yotatech.com/f28/tundra-4...cement-163431/

Walk-through is quite well done with excellent pics. It is for a 2Uz-FE engine in a Tundra which is the same motor in the GX, there are apparently a few changes in the GX from 2005 and up, but it is supposedly a nearly identical procedure for any of the 4.7L motors according to my indy mechanic who apparently has done a number of these.

Good luck!

Good to know. My mechanic stated he didnt have a tool that kept the crank aligned, Not really sure what he means. I read on a previous post of a timing job done with the water pump included for $750 total. I would jump all over that deal If it is offered in Massachusetts.

My local Colorado Springs Toyota dealer did my timing belt, water pump and air filter, plus gave me a loaner for $737 out the door yesterday. My other local Toyota dealer quoted about $10 more, but no loaner.

My Lexus dealer wanted $695 for the timing belt, another $550 for the WP and $65 for the air filter. Of course he would also include a cup of latte. They did not offer to match the Toyota prices when I called to cancel my appt with them.
